Lady Comets take Division One title in five games

by CARL SULLENBERGER

Sports correspondent

The Lady Comets hold the Division I district title after defeating the Elyria Pioneers on Thursday in a five-game series.

Elyria took the first two games 25-19 and 25-20 giving the Comets a seemingly impossible task of coming from behind. As they have all season the Lady Comets never wavered taking the next three games 25-17, 25-15, and 15-8.

They travel to the Norwalk regional today, Wednesday Nov. 4 to play against the winner of the Perrysburg district championship.

On their way to their showdown with Elyria the Comets took on the Medina Bees on Tuesday. It was a match that was never much in doubt as Amherst always had the lead in games 1 and 3 winning 25-20 and 25-15. In game 2 the Bees tied the Comets at 9-9 and 12-12 before Amherst pulled away for a 25-21 win.

Deme Morales continues to lead her team on the court instilling confidence when things get tight, inspiring them to play what is becoming known as "Amherst volleyball."
