Thanksgiving dinner at VFW a success

By JOANNE AUSTIN, director

Four County Young-At-Heart

Senior Center

The highlight of this week was certainly the Senior Thanksgiving dinner at the VFW. Thank you to Home Savings for providing this great meal for us. They mentioned this was their 30th year to do so. Hogue's did their usual fine job cooking the feast. We had almost all of the people who made a reservation in attendance.

Winning the Four County Young-At-Heart raffle baskets were Catherine Beat, Alice Burns and Biagio Fontana. Winning prizes provided by Home Savings were Marie Cleveland, Betty Linder and Anna Marie Meyer.

It seems like after we have this dinner, the holidays come quickly. I hope I can keep up.

Also from the dinner on Wednesday -- $279 was collected for Fish and Loaves.

Saturday Night Cards will be held next week on Nov. 14. Plan ahead for that.

Friday Lunch Bunch will have ham sandwiches, macaroni salad, baked beans and dessert this week. As always, they will play SkipBo afterward.

Monday, Nov. 9, is exchange day for library books from the Bellevue Public Library.

Tips for grandparents or great-grandparents with small visitors:

* There is no such thing as childproofing your house.

* A three-year-old's voice is louder than 100 adults in a crowded restaurant.

* When you hear the toilet flush and the phrase "uh-oh," it's already too late.

* Super glue is forever.

* You probably don't want to know what that odor is.

* Baseballs make marks on ceilings.

* Quiet does not necessarily mean you don't need to worry.

* A good sense of humor will get you through the visit.

Useless information -- A woman who wore a size 10-12 dress several years ago and is still the same size will now wear a size eight. Now, doesn't that make you feel good?

Have a good week -- J.
