Over 200 Bellevue children will be waking up to over-stuffed Christmas stockings  thanks to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program. The donations were plentiful this year, and 52 families in Bellevue will now have a very Merry Christmas. Pictured, from left, Bill Magers, Bill Manahan, Emily Mougey and Don Rospert donated their time Friday morning to help families load up on the gifts. Mougey, 13, has volunteered her time for four years now, and the Marines call her their  Òlittle honorary Marine Joanne Hammersmith, left, was recently presented a plaque from the Salvation Army for serving 11 years as a Salvation Army volunteer. She recently retired from the organization. Making the presentation was Jane Bailey, also a volunteer member of the local committee. Two people were injured when a car slid under a tractor-trailer on East Main Street at Prairie Road Monday at 12:13 p.m. According to Bellevue Police, Donald Richards, 76, 6027 St. Rt. 113, was driving south on Prairie Road and attempted to stop at the East Main Street intersection. Richards' car  failed to stop due to the icy road conditions and slid under the trailer of a semi truck. Richards' vehicle was thrown into a ditch. Richards and an unknown passenger were taken to The Bellevue Hospital. The semi driver, Jason Qualls, 29, of Arizona, was uninjured. (Gazette photo by Danielle Orr)
Members of the Bellevue Senior High School Future Farmers of America program continued their annual holiday tradition at The Bellevue Hospital on Dec. 18, distributing fruit baskets to all of the patients on the medical/surgical floor, Family Birthing Center, Intensive Care Unit, and Emergency Department. The choir is directed by Dottie Pickering and Richard Dundore Sr. Pickering is also directing the Community Orchestra during the event.
