Collin Close, left, and Logan Foos, right, recently joined Jim Pickering, center, at a Bellevue Lions Club meeting. Both are currently seniors at Bellevue Senior High School and were chosen by Bellevue's American Legion Post 46 to attend the annual Boys State at Bowling Green State University this past June. Both related their positive experiences over the nine days of training in how local and state government function.Ê Boys State, held at BGSU, and Girls State, held at Ashland University, give youth a great eye-opening experience into the real world. The American Legion sponsors boys and the American Legion Auxiliary sponsors the girls. The opportunity is offered to the current junior class. BSHS Principal, Gordon Moore, will make this information available. Mr. Moore was also present to hear the pair speak at the Lions Club meeting. A challenge between sister plants has netted the Fish and Loaves pantry some much needed canned goods just in time for Thanksgiving. Ball Plastic Container Corp. in Bellevue accepted a challenge from a sister plant in Delran, NJ. The plant with the most weight of donated canned goods would be treated to desert by the other plant.
The employees at the Bellevue plant donated 1,988 pounds of non-perishable food and canned goods. A friendly contest between the four shifts and eight hour and salaried employees at the Bellevue plant also gave B shift a pizza dinner for their efforts. The winning shift decided to donate the cost of the pizza to Fish & Loaves as an addition to their generosity. If the Bellevue plant is the winner of this challenge, they are asking Ball at Delran to donate the money that would be spent on the desert to Fish & Loaves.

How many people does it take to assemble 720 apple pies? A lot! A total of 112 people made 720 pies in just under four hours on Saturday, Nov. 7, all in support of the Bellevue Music Boosters. A few more fun facts: The pies were purchased by 341 people, 34 people set up on Friday night and the mess was cleaned up in less than one hour. Music Boosters thank the entire community for their support of the third annual apple pie fundraiser, with special thanks to Bassett's, Bellevue Meats, The Bellevue Gazette, Root's Poultry, and to St. Paul's United Church of Christ and Day Care for providing the facility. Monies raised will benefit the K-12 music program in the schools. (Contributed photo) The Bellevue Middle School has selected Students of the Month for October. Bellevue Middle School's first Grandparents Day was a huge success! Over 180 grandparents joined their grandchild for a glimpse of 21st century education on the morning of Oct. 25. Grandparents, including Jim and Dottie Pickering, enjoyed a donut and cup of coffee or juice before joining their student for two class periods. The teachers were very glad to have such a huge turnout and many planned special activities while the grandparents were in their rooms. One common comment from grandparents leaving the computer lab was, ÒMy, how education has changed since we were in school. A large crowd turned out to honor local military veterans and current service personnel during a Veterans' Day ceremony Wednesday morning - the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the end of World War I. In the top photo, the Bellevue Senior High School Choraliers performed. In the bottom left photo, there were many local veterans in attendance. In the bottom right photo, Ian Foos had the honor of playing the recorded Taps. (Gazette photos by Brian Liskai)
