Numerous area students receive BGSU diplomas

BOWLING GREEN -- Over 1,200 students received degrees from Bowling Green State University during summer commencement exercises held Saturday, Aug. 9, on the University Hall lawn. The graduating students represent 64 Ohio counties, 35 states and 28 nations.

Addressing the graduates was BGSU alumnus James Pickens Jr., a star of the television series "Grey's Anatomy." Pickens, who earned a bachelor of fine arts degree from Bowling Green in 1976, also received the University's Distinguished Alumnus Award during commencement. He portrays Dr. Richard Webber on "Grey's Anatomy" and has a Screen Actors Guild award to his credit as part of the ABC series' award-winning ensemble cast.
