Halloween schedule set,
2009 button design selected
Clyde will celebrate Halloween on Saturday, Oct. 31.
There is no rain date. The Halloween Parade will be held at 4 p.m., leaving from South Main Elementary School, where the parade forms.
Serving as emcee will be Greg Elchert, superintendent of Clyde Green Springs Schools. The parade marshal will be Rod McMaster, who is serving his 11th year as principal at South Main Elementary School.
McMaster also served one year as principal at Green Springs School and 13 years as principal at Vine Street School.
Taylor Ebert was the winner of the Halloween button contest, which was open to Clyde High School art students in Doug McCauley's art class. She won a $50 cash prize and her winning logo is being made into a button, which will be given to all participants in the Halloween parade. She will also be riding in a convertible in the Halloween parade.
Halloween parade entry forms for floats and large marching units are available at local financial institutions, the Clyde Public Library, Clyde Police Station, Clyde Finance Department and the office of The Clyde Enterprise.
Costumed characters walking in the parade do not need to pre-enter, but must be at South Main Elementary School for judging.
Doors open at 3:10 p.m. and judging begins at 3:30 p.m.
Costume judging will not be divided into categories, but will be divided into age groups as follows:
*Infant through age four;
*Ages five through seven;
*Ages eight and nine;
*Ages 10 through 12
*Ages 13 and older, including adult.
Judging will also be held for children's groups and family groups.
Each participant will receive a token cash prize, a candy bar, coupons from local fast food restaurants and the Halloween button. Numerous prizes will also be awarded for first, second and third place in each category.
This Saturday, Oct. 24, is the deadline for entering the 2009 Halloween Home Decorating Contest.
The decorating contest is open to any Clyde area resident or business owner located in the Clyde Green Springs School District.
Decorating must be done on the exterior of the building or in a window visible from the street. Decorating must be completed no later than Saturday, October 24 when forms must be returned to Parade Chairman, 863 CR 268, Clyde, OH 43410.
Judging will take place on either Tuesday or Wednesday, October 27 or 28. .Prizes will be awarded: 1st place, $50; 2nd place, $35; and 3rd place, $25.
Entries will be judged on theme, complexity, color and artistic expression.
Entry forms are available at local financial institutions, the Clyde Public Library, Clyde Police Station, Clyde Finance Department and the office of the Clyde Enterprise.
The Clyde Halloween Parade is sponsored by the City of Clyde and organized by The Clyde Exchange Club and Clyde Career Women. Committee members are Jeff Lemmon and Ernie Gill, chairmen; Mike Billings, Kelly Strecker and Jeanette Ricker.
