This village is a treasure

Politicians and often those touting a cause use the phrase - "It takes a village to raise a child".

In our extended little community of Clyde, Green Springs and the townships, people here go far past that. Look at what this "village" has to offer its children: A wonderful auditorium for grade school performances and high school musicals, a new aquatic center, park after park, a growing recreation program and a solid, growing school system.

We have a top-notch sports complex at the high school plus artificial turf is being installed at the stadium.

Now for almost a decade, local residents have also stepped up and supported children with profound illnesses as well. It really is not a surprise that as many as 17 cars waited at one time for a car wash by youths on Alexa Brown Day on Saturday, although the price of gasoline is nearly $4 a gallon.

Nor is it a surprise that it took table after table at Miller's Super Valu to display all the items donated for a bake sale to support a little girl and her family.

This sense of community was not evident a decade or so ago, and it should be treasured and perpetuated in the next generation.
