November vote concerns many local issues

What an amazing election the nation has before them on Nov. 4.

Yes, there will be weeks on positive and negative campaigning, but no matter which ticket - Republican or Democrat - this will be an election of firsts for the United States.

Our nation will have either an African-American President or a woman Vice President.

Each ticket is a combination of newcomers to national politics and Washington-staple politicians.

While we are not endorsing the ideas of either major party nor either ticket, we need to especially endorse voting in this landmark election.

Those who are not yet registered as voters have until Oct. 6, according to the Ohio Secretary of State's office. Call the Sandusky County Board of Election at 419-334-6180 or visit the Fremont office and register now. Then vote in person on Nov. 4 or vote absentee. Call, e-mail and text your family and friends and ask them to commit to this duty as well.

The next President and Vice President of this country has challenges ahead. China and India are now on the world stage. Our nation needs new, aggressive solutions to the energy crisis and global warming. The nation is also facing the possible elimination of our middle class should the nation's leaders not deal swiftly with energy, health care and economic issues.

The next President has a wars end and now an unstable relationship with Russia and the Middle East, again. Since the election of our last president, our town has seen local men and women sent off to war, gasoline spike at over $4 a gallon, and more and more area jobs eliminated. These issues make this election as local as it can get.
