Thomas L. Held
Thomas LaMar Held, 82, of Vickery and Hernando, Fla., died Friday, Aug. 22, 2008 at St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. He and his cousin, Richard Held, were fatally injured in a local vehicle accident.
He was born April 8, 1926 in Fremont. He married Sally Ann Andrassy on July 31, 1948 and she preceded him in death in August of 2006.
He attended St. Joseph High School, Class of 1943. He joined the United States Navy and served on an ammunition boat throughout the Pacific. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Clyde. He worked as a steam boiler operator at the Ford Motor Company in Sandusky for over 30 years. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Eagles in Clyde and in Hernando, Fla. He was one of the original founders of the Townsend Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Vickery Rodeo. He and his wife, owned and operated the Village Tavern.
Survivors include three daughters, Tomi (Mike) Johnson of Port Clinton, Teri (Bill) Sharp of Vickery and Tedi (Chris) LeJeune of Findlay; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Maryann (Tom) Wagner of Fremont; and two brothers, Bob Held of Clyde and Don (Carlene) Held of Lindsay.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sally; and a sister, Lucy Neitfeld.
Visitation will be held (today) Wednesday, Aug. 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary service at 7:45 p.m., at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St.
A funeral mass will be Thursday, Aug. 28, at 10:30 a.m., at, St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery with full military honors.
