Richard Held
Richard "Dick" Held, 81, Cardon, Calif., died Friday, Aug. 22, 2008 at St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, of injuries from an local auto accident, along with his cousin, Thomas Held.
He was born Dec. 25, 1926 in Fremont. He married Margaret Marty on Oct. 30, 1965.
He was a career Army veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam with the 101st Airborne. He also worked 20 years in with the United States Postal Service in San Pedro, Calif. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Airborne Club in Carson, Calif. He was a member of St. Philomena Church in Carson, Calif., where he was an usher for many years.
Survivors include two sons, Mathew Held of Carson, Calif. and Richard Brent Held of Carson, Calif.; a granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held (today) Wednesday, Aug. 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary service at 7:45 p.m., at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St.
A funeral mass will be Thursday, Aug. 28, at 10:30 a.m., at, St. Mary's Catholic Church. Full military honors will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Burial will be in California.
