Claude E. Young
Claude E. Young, 77, Green Springs, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009 at St. Luke's Hospital.
Mr. Young was born July 18, 1932 in Seneca County, to the late Lee Joseph and Iris (Sommers) Young. He married Carolyn Solze on Dec. 24, 1955 and she survives.
Claude graduated from Green Springs High School in 1950 and attended Baldwin-Wallace College. He then worked at the former Clyde Porcelain Steel, later at Whirlpool Corp and then was first a partner and then the sole owner of the Progress Plastic Products.
Claude was the Past Master of Green Springs Masonic Lodge 427, Past District Deputy Grand Master of the 16th District, York and Scottish Rite Mason, Honorary 33rd Degree, Potentate of Zenobia Shrine (1994), Past President of Fremont Shrine Club, Past President of Jeepsters and member of many other Zenobia Shrine Units and Clubs and also a Past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star Icedore Chapter 299.
He was a member of the American Legion, Amvets, Veterans of Foreign Wars Forty and Eight, Ohio Commodores, DeMars Point Hunting & Fishing Club, Coon Creek Hunt Club and Stemtown Historical Society in Green Springs.
Mr. Young served in the Navy from 1951 to 1954 on the U.S.S. Boxer Aircraft Carrier during the Korean Conflict and also during that time he sang on the Ed Sullivan Radio Show with the Navy quartet.
Claude served on the Board of Directors for Birchard Public Library, Croghan Colonial Bank, Tiffin University, Terra Community College Foundation, St. Francis Health Care Center, Clyde-Green Springs Board of Education and Shriner's Burn Hospital in Cincinnati.
Claude deeply loved his family and treasured his many friends. He enjoyed hunting and had a great interest in local history. Claude enjoyed his church family, singing in the choir and serving on the Council for many years.
Claude is survived by his wife, Carolyn; three sons, Wade (Cindy) Young of Fremont, Bret (Lorna) Young of Green Springs and Todd (Lisa) Young of Tiffin; grandchildren, Wade "Buck" Young, Blair Young, Austin Young, Carly Young, David Young, Joseph (Alyssa) Young, Bayley Young, Adam Young, Lindsay Young, Anne Young, Jake (Liberty) Smith and McKinsey (Troy) Carter; great grandchildren, Kaydence, Joel, Chloe, Caleb, Justice, Jacob and Joslyn; two sisters, Louise Craig of Fremont and Eleanor (Leonard) Miller of Sandusky.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ernest Michael Young and Irving Buford "Pat" Young.
Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 27, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., at the Green Springs School. Masonic services will be at 3:30 p.m. and then a memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. with Rev. Chris Toberget officiating. Private burial will be in Green Springs Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Green Springs United Methodist Church; the Green Springs Historical Society; the Shriner's Hospital for Children; the Elevator fund at the Green Springs Masonic Lodge.
