School levy passes

The Clyde-Green Springs Exempted Village School District 5.45 mill, 5-year renewal levy passed by about 43 votes Tuesday night.

Superintendent Gregg Elchert reported that his count at 10 p.m. Tuesday showed the levy passed in both counties 1,836 in favor and 1,793 against. At press time, Seneca County was still counting late precincts but had numbers in for Adams Township.

"I don't know that the people who voted 'No' voted against the school as much as their personal position or just their mood," Elchert commented. "I appreciate the people who voted 'Yes'."

"It's a sigh of relief," he added. Now the school treasurer can refigure the district's five-year financial forecast to include $1,265,000 annually in funds from the renewed levy.

But approval of the levy does not solve the district's future financial woes. "We are still going to have to make some hefty cuts before the start of next school year," Elchert said.

Local voters also had several unopposed races to cast ballots in Tuesday.

Incumbents on the Clyde City Council and the Clyde-Green Springs Board of Education ran unopposed, but they did receive complimentary votes.

Running for re-election on the Clyde City Council were G. Scott Black, 442 Ames St., 995 votes; Kenneth Dick, 433 Spring St., 851 votes; and Steven A. Keegan, 4190 Fox Ave., 923 votes.

Re-elected to the school board were Thomas L. Conley, 125 Warnecke Drive, 2,264 votes; Nancy J. Greenslade, 2203 S. Main St., 2,107 votes; and W. Todd Warner, 135 Lynber Lane, 1,756 votes.

In the Village of Green Springs, four seats were open on council and only two candidates filed: Mary E. Brundage, 127 S. Leonard St., received 182 votes and Donald R. Sours, 118 W. Morgan St., 237. For the village board of public affairs, Elwell J. Oakleaf receicved 275 votes.

In Greek Creek Township, there was a four-man race for two trustee seats.

Winners were incumbent Gene Slotto, 2936 CR 185, with 576 votes and Ken Bonnigson, 1834 W. McPherson Hwy., with 661.

Candidates Earl D. Lowe, 902 CR 224, received 315 and Albert L. Cravens, 378.

In York Township, winners for the two township trustee seats were Norman Lee Patten, 540 votes; and H. Lee Watson, 580 votes. Thomas Maike received 376 votes.

In Townsend Township, in a three-person race for two trustee seats, incumbents Jeffrey Max Miller, Vickery and Jean Leber, 1560 CR 310, were re-elected. Miller had 397 votes, Leber 335 and challenger Todd R. Hand, Vickery, received 161 votes.

In Riley Township, winners were John W. Antesberger with 273 votes and David Sachs with 232. Challenger Stephen Frontz received 121 votes.

Three candidates ran for two seats on the Adams Township (Seneca County) Board of Trustees. Winners were David T. Carrothers with 282 votes and Bret Cleveland with 259 votes. William M. Frankart received 222 votes, according to the Seneca County Board of Elections.

All results are unofficial.
