State rates district 'Effective': Two schools make 'Excellent'
The Clyde-Green Springs Exempted School District was rated "Effective" when the 2007-2008 Ohio Department of Education report card was released Tuesday.
The district achieved 24 of 30 state indicators and rated a 94.2 on the Performance Index of a possible 120 points.
The local schools also was rated has having "Met" the Adequate Yearly Progress standard for district improvement.
Areas where the district did not achieve testing goals were on the 8th grade achievement test of science and social studies and for the same two areas on the Ohio Graduation Tests taken by sophomores. The other standard missed was in fifth grade mathematics on the 5th grade achievement test.
The school district did exceed the 94.2 percent attendance rate set by the state with a 95 percent attendance for 2007-08.
The 2006-07 Graduation rate for CHS of 90.7 percent also exceeded the state percentage of 86.9 percent, but it was slightly lower than the average of like districts (92.8 percent).
Building breakdown
*Clyde High School was ranked "Effective" and achieved 10 of 12 indicators. The high school, however, did not meet the AYP standard and the schools improvement status was listed "at risk".
*McPherson Middle School rated "Effective" achieving 5 of 8 state indicators. It also met the APY standards.
* Green Springs School ranked "Excellent" and achieved 11 of 12 indicates. It also "Met" the AYP standards.
*South Main School rated "Effective" meeting 4 of 6 state indicators. It also "Met" the APY standards.
*Vine Street School rated "Excellent" meeting 5 of 6 state indicators. It also "Met" APY standards.
The statewide average of all students' test scores - the performance index score - has increased by more than 25 percent since it was introduced in 1999-2000, from 73.7 to 92.3. This performance index measures the achievement of every tested student, not just those who score proficient or higher. This year, more than half of school districts improved their performance index scores over last year.
According to an ODE press release Tuesday, more districts and schools than ever are designated as Effective or higher.
This reflects almost 85 percent of school districts and almost 70 percent of school buildings. These figures include 74 districts and 158 schools that have earned the new Excellent with Distinction designation.
