Letters to the editor
Dear Editor,
On behalf of the Boards of Directors of Ottawa County CASA and Joyful Connections, we would like to thank all of the local businesses who helped make our High Street A Cappella concert a worthwhile event: Victorian Inn, Port Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce, Mary's Blossom Shoppe, Great Lakes Popcorn Factory, Dornbusch Agency, Genoa Jewelers, and Red, White, and Brew for selling our tickets; The Beacon, The News Herald, The Exponent, and the Peninsula Press for their coverage of the event; and the Port Clinton City Schools for the use of the Performing Arts Center. And last, but certainly not least, we thank High Street A Cappella for the donation of their time and talent. The event greatly benefited both organizations and we appreciate the time and effort all of you contributed.

Dear Editor,
As members of the Port Clinton Cinema and Theatre Society, we would like to welcome everyone in the community to attend the 2008 Ohio Chautauqua. This special five-day event will be held from Tuesday, July 8 to Saturday, July 12 and will feature nationally-known actors and actresses, quality musical entertainment, educational workshops for both children and adults, and tasty food benefiting local non-profit organizations.
Port Clinton was one of only five communities selected by the Ohio Humanities Council to host this year's program, which features free performances by remarkable inventers and innovators from our nation's past, including Alexander Graham Bell, Andrew Carnegie, George Washington Carver, Mary McLeod Bethune, and Thomas Alva Edison. Each day will consist of a children's workshop at the Ida Rupp Public Library at 10 AM, an early afternoon adult workshop, food and musical entertainment at Lakeview (City) Park at 6 p.m., and historical performances under the big red and white striped Ohio Chautauqua tent beginning at 7 p.m.
Port Clinton's Kiwanis and Main Street organizations will serve food and musical performances will range from the 338th Army Band to the Pride of Toledo Sweet Adelines to our very own Port Clinton Community Band. Please visit www.ohiohumanities.org/chaut/index.htm for complete scheduling details. We hope you will join us for this exciting, unique, and entertaining event!
