Marion W. Meister

Active 4-H supporter

Marion W. Meister, 78, of Swanton passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg, one day before his wife, Joanne, would be called to Heaven. He was born on Nov. 28, 1929, in Whitehouse to the late Clyde M. Meister and Ethel (Fisher) Meister.

Marion was a veteran of the U.S Army during the Korean War. He retired from Johns Manville in Waterville after more than 40 years of service. He was an active supporter of 4-H clubs and was on several committees including the Harry Hughes Equestrian. Marion devoted time to the Lucas County Fair and the metro park in Grand Rapids with the Canal Boat Tours.

Marion is survived by his wife of 53 years; Joanne (Fay) Meister; children, Tom Meister of Swanton, Jody (Gene) Krise of Waterville, Sally (Shawn) Griffin of Swanton and Michelle Smothers of Sylvania; brother, Robert (Eleanor) Meister; sisters, Harriet Moore, Susan Bockelman and Audrey Dicks; sister-in-law, Norma Meister; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Marvin, and infant brother, Rodney Meister; sisters, Gladis Box, Lillian Snyder, Onnolee Stephens, and Josephine Finkenbiner; and granddaughter, Samantha Griffin, in 1995.

Funeral services for Marion and Joanne will be private for the family. Interment will be at Swanton Cemetery at a later date.
