Hunting starts on Labor Day
We all look forward to Labor Day as it almost closes the vacation period for many persons. Plus there will be many family dinners over the Labor Day weekend too. Plus many will travel and many will go boating and fishing.
For some reason the summer seems to go much faster than the rest of year. Is it because as they say, time flys when you are having fun? Anyway, another summer has slipped through our fingers and we haven't done half of what we planned to do.
Yes, we did get some fishing in this year and we are thankful for that. We tried many new baits that were sent to us to try. Also Berkley sent us Trilene MAXX fishing line in green and 8 pound and we spooled it on and it done a very fine job for us this year.
We still like Chompers lizards and centipedes as they do catch fish for us. There were many new hard baits on sale this year and some very fine ones from Pradco Fishing and the Rat-L Trap spinning lures are also a fine lure, as they call it the lure you can't fish wrong.
Talking to Jake Smith at Lake La Su An wildlife Area in the Montpelier area , he says that he expects quite a crowd of hunters on Sept. 1, as the hunting season opens with hunters going hunting for dove, squirrel and early goose. Smith says anglers can call on Aug. 29, 2008 for fishing reservations and also on Sept. 5, at 1-419-636-6189. Bluegills have been doing real well and bass fishing on cloudy days seems to be best.
For the holidays don't forget the local areas as the reservoirs in Wauseon, Delta and the one in Swanton too. Remember Nettle Lake and also Harrison Lake.
We must not forget Lake Erie as it is the number one walleye fishing in Ohio and called the best in the nation. The report from the DNR office at Lake Erie tells us that fishing is not too bad for walleye at this time.
The best walleye fishing was around the turnaround buoy in the Toledo Shipping Channel, and around "A" can of the the Camp Perry firing range, plus North of Crane Creek. Many anglers are still drifting with bottom bouncers and worm harnesses. There are many lures and hard baits that walleye will tackle. The limit for walleye is six per day and and the minimum size is 15 inches long.
For small and largemouth bass it is a minimum of 14 inches and a limit of five bass.
The yellow perch is a much fished for fish and they have set the limit down to 25 per day at the present time, until further notice.
