It took four plays for Archbold to overcome a tough comeback attempt by the Wauseon Indians on Friday.
With minutes to play, the Blue Streaks drove for a final score that stopped an Indian comeback. Tied at 24, the Streaks Garrett Morton took four passes to score and get the go-ahead touchdwon winning 31-24.
Just minutes before, Wauseon overcame a 24-3 defecit to knot the game. Travis Reynolds capped a long drive with a seven yard run. Clay Simpkin's kick was good and the game was tied late in the fourth quarter.
The Indians struck first in the second half as Landon Schaffner hit a wide open Mike Chapa for a 21-yard score to cap a 13 play, 65-yard drive.
A Jordan stickley interception did not yield any points but a defensive stand by the Indians gave them the ball to open the fourth quarter. Chapa ran for 10 and Jeff Jasso ran for 52 yards to set up Chapa's five-yards scring run. The Indians were a touchdown away from knoting the game and a Streak three-and-out led to that tying run by Reynolds.
The first half was all Archbold as the Streaks, aided by a fake punt opended the game with a Aaron Bontranger 33-yard field goal.
The Indians would give up the ball on their first offensive play leading to a Streak toucdown. Morton hit Drew Smith for 23 yards and then ran the final two to give his team a 10-0 lead halfway through the first stanza.
Wauseon would answer on their next possession getting 31-yard field goal from Simpkins.
The Streaks would bounce right back capping a 13 paly, 80-yard drive with a scoring run by Morton for a 17-3 Streak lead.
Seeming to have the game in had by halftime, the Streaks took one more drive. On third-and goal from the 12, Morton hit Smith in the endzone for a score and a 24-3 lead halftime lead and what appeared to be a sure victory.
Despite a solid comeback attempt by Wauseon, the Streak passing game got them past the comeback and into the win column. Both teams are mathmatically alive in making the playoff, though neither team fully controls its own destiny.
