Delta FFA district soil judging competition results
DELTA - Delta FFA recently participated in the District I Soil Judging contest held in Archbold. In order to participate at the district level, participants must first finish in the top eight in their county. Delta finished fourth in the Urban Soil Judging out of 21 teams.
Urban soil judging required judging four pits and taking a written test. Participants were required to rate the soil for buildings with basements, septic tanks, driveways, roads, lawns and gardens.
Leading Delta' urban team was Amanda Versansky who placed second out of 120 participants. Other team members included Kayla Miller (19th), Adam Creamer (20th), Alex Betz (22nd), Cody Keller (24th), Colin Fisher (31st), Jonny Tolson (42nd) and Nico Arredondo (64th). With fourth place, the Urban team advances to the state competition.
The Rural team finished fourth out of 21 teams. Rural judging requires taking a written test and judging four pits. Participants must recommend management and plowing practices.Leading Delta's rural team was Tim Sintobin, who finished 13th out of 162 participants. Other team members were Keegan Scott (16th), Rayce Robertson (18th), Robert Patchin (27th), Brad Dutcher (38th), Nathan Brehm (48th), Zach Woodring (61st) and Tyler Yant (84th). The Rural team advances to the state competition.
Delta's agronomy team finished seventh out of 14 teams. Agronomy includes identifying crop and weed plants, crop and weed seeds, insects and crop diseases. A written test is also included in the competition.
Out of 116 individuals, Jordan Kinder placed 23rd, Jordan Smith (26th), Scott Pfaff (50th), Noah Ruby (60th) and Matt Harris (76th).
