Swanton can achieve extraordinary tasks

On September 26, I witnessed an extraordinary thing when our community came together in a crisis to help with the bomb threat at Swanton Health Care. Eighty-one residents were evacuated.

I watched as fire, rescue, police and volunteers came to the rescue. It was evident they had a plan and it was working. They used the high school to shelter residents. The whole community helped care for them. The mutual aid response was overwhelming with transportation of the residents.

I'm proud to be part of the community and say 'thank you' to all the people who were involved.

We have another crisis coming October 6: a teachers' strike. Please let the community come together again and encourage our board members to be united. They authorized our superintendent and treasurer to negotiate the contract. They were able to achieve that. So why wasn't the school board's vote united to end this strike?

Please, I encourage you to call, write and e-mail your elected officials and encourage them to make the vote unanimous.

I know this community is capable of achieving extraordinary tasks.

Pamela Moore

Councilwoman,

Swanton
