Keep meeting, settle before a strike occurs

I want to commend Swanton teachers for their efforts in moving us to an "Effective" rating on the State School Report Card. I know that it is hard work to get the information into the students' heads and then back out onto to the test papers. Well done.

To the members of the school board that did not vote no, I feel your frustration over the vote on Wednesday. You have done all that could be done but you can't give up now. There is still more to do. This must be settled. I voted for you, stand behind you, and pray for you.

I cannot understand why the board sent negotiators into talks with parameters set by the board, and then have members vote against the contract. Those members have disrespected the teachers, the students, the taxpayers of the school district, and those who elected you.

Teachers and board, please keep meeting and settle this before a strike occurs. Keep Swanton in the news as an up and coming community with excellent schools and co-operation between staff and board. It can be done and I believe you can do it.
