Delta, Tribe fare well at state meet

Delta and Wauseon ran to top 10 finishes at the 2008 Ohio Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Scioto Downs.

In Division III boys competition, Delta finished in sixth place as a team. They were led by Colin Fisher, who finished in 27th place. Elliot Oberneder was 56th, T.J. Sintobin 68th, Maxx Lackie 90th and Zachariah Lee 92nd for the Panthers.

Bellaire St. John Central won the state title with 104 points. Delta tallied 184.

In Division II girls, Holly Baird helped Wauseon to a ninth place finish as a team. Baird was 11th overall to earn All-Ohio honors.

Baird advanced to state all four years at Wauseon. She was 26th last season, third in 2006 and 17th as a freshman in 2005.

Also for the Indians, Bailey Creager was 65th, Marin Baird 90th, Benschoter 103rd and Bethany Wilson 114th.

Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy won with 51 points. Wauseon totaled 243.

Pettisville Austin Borton led individual runners from the area. He finished 21st overall to earn All-Ohio honors in Division III.

Also in that race Darrell Randall of Fayette finished 97th.

In Division III girls, Tanner Hostetler of Pettisville placed 41st overall. Erica Goeltzenleuchter was 77th in the race.
