by MICHELE ANDREWS

School volunteer

Oberlin City Schools and a host of community partners are organizing the second annual Cultural Festival to be held in Tappan Square Saturday, Oct. 10 from 1-4 p.m. We will be celebrating the inherent diversity of our town through the eyes of the various presenters, performers and guests. If you are interested in participating -- and to get information -- go to www.oberlin.edu/CultureFest.

A community-based seasonal flu clinic is scheduled at Oberlin High School on Oct. 8 from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. This clinic is for seasonal flu vaccine only. It is not for H1N1. The fee is $15 per shot; Medicare and Medicaid will be accepted and no one is refused due to an inability to pay.

Eastwood: Flu season is upon us; please remind your student to cover when they are sneezing and to wash their hands. If your student is not feeling well please keep them home.

Prospect: Graham Codney, Kimberlee Cartwright, Brian Carter and Felicia Christian are new members of the Prospect staff this year. Stop in, introduce yourself and make them feel welcome as part of the Prospect Family.

Langston: We are nearing the half-way point of the first marking period; please make sure your student is keeping up with assignments. Edline is a great tool to keep track of your student's progress; usernames and passwords have been sent home. If you did not receive this information contact the board office.

Sporting Life: Langston volleyball will host Wellington Wednesday, Sept. 30 and Black River Monday, Oct. 5 with games starting at 4:30 p.m. LMS football is home (OHS) against Brooklyn Tuesday, Oct. 6 with kick-off at 4:30 p.m.

OHS: Thursday, Oct. 1 is the registration deadline for the Nov. 7 SAT. Register online or at guidance. There will be a free practice ACT test Saturday, Oct. 10 at OHS. If interested let guidance know. Life Share will be at OHS for a blood drive Wednesday, Sept. 30. The 2009 Homecoming Dance will be Saturday, Oct. 3 at OHS.

Sporting Life: OHS volleyball will be at home Tuesday, Sept. 29 against Buckeye with JV starting at 6 p.m. and varsity at 7:30 p.m. Boys varsity soccer will host Lutheran West Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 4:30 p.m. Girls varsity soccer is home against Lake Ridge Monday, Oct. 5 starting at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2 is Homecoming for OHS and the Phoenix will take to the field against Wellington starting at 7:30 p.m. The Marching Band will have a special half-time show.
