Fall library book sale Nov. 11-14
The Friends of the Oberlin Public Library will hold its annual fall book sale Nov. 11-14 at the library.
There will be thousands of books for sale as well as CDs and DVDs donated by community members. Volunteers have been busy for months sorting children's books, cookbooks, fiction, history, mystery, biography and reference books.
The sale begins on Wednesday, Nov. 11 and ends on Saturday, Nov. 14. Members of the Friends can shop at a special pre-sale on Wednesday, Nov. 11 from 6-8 p.m. New members can join at the door.
Books are priced at $1 for hardbacks, books on tape, CDs and DVDs. Paperbacks are 50 cents. Electronic scanners will not be permitted at the sale.
The primary goal of the Friends of the Oberlin Public Library is to provide financial support for programs and services not funded by the library budget, which has declined by 15 percent over the last three years, while demand for reference services and public programs and circulation has increased 15 percent over the same time period. Membership donations and revenues from the book sale are the greatest funding sources of the Friends.
The Friends will repeat the Special Book Corner, featuring individually-priced books that are new or of interest to collectors.
Automatic price reductions begin at noon on Nov. 14, when hardbacks may be purchased for 50 cents and paperbacks for 25 cents. A plastic grocery bag of books will be sold for $5.
Those who join the Friends of the Oberlin Public Library during the book sale will be eligible to participate in a drawing for a special book, signed by the author. Membership for individuals is $10, and $15 for families.
In addition, any Friend who leaves his or her name with the cashier during the sale will be entered in a drawing for an autographed copy of "All on Fire: William Lloyd Garrison and the Abolition of Slavery," by Henry Mayer.
The Friends pre-sale will be held from 6-8 p.m. The book sale continues on Thursday, Nov. 12, 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 13 - 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; and Saturday, Nov. 14 - 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. (half-price after noon).
