Man arrested in Sunday shooting

Oberlin police are investing a shooting incident early Sunday morning that resulted in two gunshot victims and another man hospitalized for an eye injury.

Oberlin police public information officer Lt. Michael McCloskey said two of the victims were at 329 N. Main St. playing dominoes and drinking early Sunday morning when Andrew Davidson of Elyria arrived. An argument ensued that escalated into a physical altercation and gunshots.

"The initial report was it was an argument over gas," McCloskey said. "It's unclear what the real issue was."

Police responded at 3:33 a.m.

Isaac Long, 39, of Oberlin, was wounded with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. Rodney Cannon Sr., 42, also of Oberlin, had a severe head laceration and an injury to his left eye.

"His eye was really swollen, and the medical technicians thought there might be nerve damage," McCloskey said. "So they took him to Metro, too."

Status reports were not immediately available for the two men.

McCloskey said while officers were investigating the shooting, dispatch received a call from security at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria, reporting Davidson had been dropped off at the emergency room with a gunshot wound to his right thigh. Officers responded to EMH and arrested Davidson for attempted murder and two counts of aggravated robbery.

"He was treated at EMH, and they brought him back here," McCloskey said. "But before we could book him, his wound started bleeding again. So they took him for further treatment and then right to the county jail."
