Halloween is upon us and the Langston eighth graders will be holding a Halloween Carnival Saturday, Oct. 31, 2-4 p.m. There will be fun and games for all ages. Come in costume and afterward head downtown to get a start on trick or treating followed by community trick or treating 6-7:30 p.m. Proceeds from the carnival go to help with the eighth grade Washington, D.C. trip.
* Eastwood: The annual Halloween Parade begins at Eastwood Saturday, Oct. 31 at 10 a.m. Come in costume and be a part of this Oberlin tradition. The OHS Marching Band will lead the parade from Eastwood to Langston where cider and donuts will be served followed by a magic show. This is free and open to the community.
* Prospect: The first trimester is nearly over. Please be sure your student is keeping up with assignments. Remember, if your student is having problems don't wait until report cards come out to address them.
* Langston: Thursday, Oct. 29 there will be an IB Parent Information meeting 6-7 p.m. This is an opportunity to get information and ask questions about what IB means for your student. Stay after for the Langston PTO meeting that will begin at 7 p.m.
Sporting Life: The Langston girls basketball season is gearing up. Games will begin next week.
* OHS: Tonight, starting at 6 p.m. there will be a College Essay Workshop sponsored by the Ninde Scholars Program. Writing associates from Oberlin College along with members of OC faculty will be on hand to help OHS students develop and refine their essays for college applications and scholarships. This workshop is free to all students.
Friday, Oct. 30 is the registration deadline for the Dec. 5 SAT. Register at guidance or online.
Thursday, Oct. 29 the OHS Academic Challenge team will go brain to brain with Elyria HS starting at 4 p.m.
Sporting Life: Boys and girls basketball start official practices this week. If your student intends to play they must have a current physical and meet academic eligibility requirements.
The Oberlin Phoenix will play their final game at home Friday, Oct. 30 vs. Clearview. This is also Senior/Parent night and the Marching Band is planning a special half-time show. If you have not already come out to a game this is your last chance this season. Thanks for supporting Oberlin's student athletes.
Monday, Nov. 2 is early release day for all Oberlin City School Students. Students will be dismissed two hours early.
