Port Clinton housing development earns state award

The Port Clinton Pointe housing development was named Project of the Year 2009 by the Ohio Community Development Corporation (CDC) at its annual conference in Canton.

The award was presented to WSOS Housing Development Coordinator Don Corley and Pat Hartman, vice president of Millennia Housing Management, Ltd. Also present for the award presentation were United Way's Ottawa County Director Chris Galvin, who serves as a WSOS board member, Ottawa Metropolitan Housing Authority Board President Bill Lowe, Ottawa Residential Services Executive Director Stephanie Lowe, and Sharon Austin of Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing.

The Port Clinton Pointe housing development, located at 1265 West Fremont Rd., Port Clinton, opened its doors in 2008 to area residents. The complex provides moderate-income families with quality, affordable housing.

The development consists of two- and three-bedroom townhouses, each with two baths, private entrance and patio. Each unit is also furnished with Energy Star appliances. In addition, there is a clubhouse with a community room, kitchen, fireplace, as well as a fitness center and clothes care center available exclusively for the residents of Port Clinton Pointe.

The development is a collaborative effort of Millennia Housing Development, Ltd., WSOS Community Action Commission Inc., the Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing, and the Ohio Housing Finance Agency, with financing assistance from Rural Development and the Huntington Bank.
