EHOVE Mavericks robotics team
looking for mentors, sponsors
EHOVE Career Center is seeking business and industry partners willing to mentor and sponsor its Mavericks Robotics team. Those interested are invited to attend a meeting scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10 at EHOVE's campus, 316 W. Mason Rd., in Milan.
EHOVE's Robotics team is composed of pre-engineering students enrolled in the Engineering Tech Prep program. Students are co-enrolled at the EHOVE Career Center and BGSU Firelands College, earning high school and college credit simultaneously.
As part of the goal to prepare students for the rigors of an engineering or a technical degree, EHOVE has participated for the past two years in a robotic extracurricular activity called FIRST.
FIRST is a robotics competition founded by inventor and entrepreneur Dean Kamen. FIRST is an acronym for "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology." It is an international phenomenon, which pairs high schools with corporate sponsors to build a robot which will compete in a sports-like event.
The goal of the FIRST program is to give students hands-on experience working side-by-side with professional engineers. The FIRST program gives students the confidence and knowledge that they have the ability and skills to become the next generation of engineers and scientists.
