Danbury hires Peluso as football coach
Gene Peluso, recently hired as an assistant football coach at Danbury, was elevated to the position of head coach at Wednesday night's school board meeting. Peluso replaces Kory Conrad, who after one season as head coach, resigned due to a family illness that will take a large portion of his time.
"We appreciate all of the efforts of Coach Conrad and we strongly support him and his family. He worked very hard for our players and program," said Joe Fetzer, athletic director.
Peluso led the Laker football program from 1996-2002. In those seven seasons, he compiled a 28-41 record with five seasons of four or more victories. Prior to coaching at Danbury, Peluso coached at Fostoria St. Wendelin for 32 years (30 years as head coach) where he compiled a 170-122-3 record. Overall, Peluso has coached teams to 198 victories.
"We are very fortunate to have a person of Coach Peluso's experience, knowledge, and character to step into this situation and run our football program," said Fetzer.
High school football practice will begin on Thursday, July 31. The Lakers will open their season on the road on Aug. 22, at Upper Scioto Valley.
