Bellevue FFA student places
Heather Carbary, daughter of Scott and Christine Carbary won second in state for Equine Science Placement. Heather's SAE consists of caring for registered Quarter horses and Percheron draft horses.
Carbary Farms owns two registered Quarter horses and Daniel Farms owns three registered Percheron draft horses, she also helps Arrowhead Acres Percherons with their activities. They currently have 22 horses.
At Carbary Farms she cares for the horses on a daily basis. This includes: feeding, watering, health care, hoof care, training, showing, and she also helps bale the hay, straw and haul manure. Along with learning how to run all the machinery involved with her project, Carbary does most of her own vet care, such as giving shots and deworming her horses along with helping others with theirs.
Daniel Farms shows registered Percheron draft horses. At Daniel Farms Carbary helps with the daily care, foaling, health care, training, transportation, showing and breeding.
Ever since she was young, Carbary had an interest in horses. In 2005 her father surprised her by purchasing a Quarter horse for her to care for. When Carbary was a freshmen she started helping Daniel Farms with their Percherons. They raise a few horses for show and resale. The Percherons are large and powerful and much patience and knowledge is needed to work with them.
Carbary's goals for the future include learning more about showing Draft's such as four-, six, and eight-horse hitch. Her past goals, such as showing draft horses in single cart and showmanship were accomplished.
Carbary plans to have a farm of her own someday and will continue to show horses. She wants to pass her experience on to her children the same way people have passed their experience on to her.
Carbary received a plaque and a cash award from the Ohio FFA Foundation.
