FCF Flower Show produces ribbons, winners
DOVER TWP. - The 2009 Fulton County Fair (FCF) Flower Show was once again, one of the main attractions at the fair. The theme was "Glimpses of a Garden". Two separate shows were presented. The exhibiting clubs were the Delta Community Garden Club, Fulton County Garden Club and the Swanton Garden Club.
All three clubs participated in the Garden Division, which consisted of three categories: Pedestal design - "Flowers in All Their Glory"; Inspirational design - "Precious Memories" and Table Setting "Garden Party".
First show winners were Delta (1st), Fulton (2nd) and Swanton (3rd) for Pedestal design. In the Inspirational design, Swanton (1st), Delta (2nd) and Fulton (3rd) was the order of finish. Lastly, for Table Setting, the order of finishing was Swanton (1st), Delta (2nd) and Fulton (3rd).
Second show winners for Pedestal design were Swanton, Delta and Fulton. In the Inspirational Design category, the winners were Delta, Fulton and Swanton. Lastly, for Table Setting, the order of finishing was Fulton, Swanton and Delta.
The first show consisted of five artistic design classes for individuals. There were three entries in the first class - "Creating Harmony". Connie Kovatch of Swanton was the winner. "Water Garden" was the second class and it had five entries. Susan Hamlet of Swanton was the winner in both "Water Garden" as well as the third class - "Classic Country" in which there were seven entries. The fourth class was "Celebrating the Seasons" was won by Swanton's Kovatch. She was further honored with her entry in the fourth class with Best of Show by the judges. The fifth and final class was "A Floral Dance" had five entries and was won by Karen Riches of Wauseon.
The second show first place winners in individual artistic designs were Carol Goldsmith of Delta (out of seven entries in "Intimate Charm"); Kovatch of Swanton (out of six entries in "Young at Heart"); Kovatch (out of four entries in "Autumn Finale"); and Mabel Hudson of Delta whose design, one of five entries in "Down Memory Lane" was both judged first in its class and Best of the Second Show.
The Junior Division consisted of two classes in each show. Winners in the first show were Elise Crosser of Swanton (out of eight entries) in "Fun in the Sun" and Lindsey Niedzwiecki of Swanton, who placed first out of five entries in "Rain Forest".
Second show winners were Niedzwiecki of Swanton, who placed first of the five entries in "Pocket Full of Posies". The design class "Water Park" drew six entries. It was divided into two sections, yielding two first place winners: Drew Crosser and Niedzwiecki, both of Swanton.
Best of Show winners in the Senior Horticultural Division / First Show, were Ann Kahrs of Wauseon (Annuals and Gladiolus); Douglas Ward of Delta (Dahlias); Audrey Palumbo of Perrysburg (Roses) and David Wisniewski of Sylvania (Miniature Roses).
Best of Show winners in the Senior Horticultural Division / Second Show, were Paul Hershberger of Stryker (Annuals); Ralph Zimmerman of Delta (Gladiolus); Beverly Armstrong of Archbold (Dahlias); Palumbo of Perrysburg (Roses) and Cheryl Menard of Maumee (Miniature Roses).
Best of Show in the Junior Division were Laura Galbraith of Delta and Niedzwiecki of Swanton.
There were also three educational displays prepared by each club. Delta prepared "How Green Grows Your Garden?"; Fulton County prepared "Growing African Violets". The Swanton Club prepared "Plants Used for Food and Medicine by Early Settlers".
The Floral Depot of Delta and Anything Grows of Wauseon prepared to lovely arrangements that greeted the visitors as they entered the building.
