Matter named Penta super

The Penta Career Center Board of Education, during its regular meeting last week, voted to hire Ron Matter, current assistant superintendent of Penta, as its new superintendent.

Matter will take over on August 1 for Fred Susor, current Penta superintendent, who is retiring on July 31. He was selected from a pool of 15 applicants and he was one of four candidates interviewed for the position by the Board of Education.

"The Board feels that Ron Matter is the best candidate for the position," said Dr. Eric Myers, president of the Penta Board of Education. "Ron has an extensive background in school administration in Northwest Ohio and he has developed good working relationships with area school districts, the community, and business and industry during his four years as assistant superintendent at Penta. As we look to the future of career-technical education in our community, we believe Ron will be an excellent leader for students, staff and administration."

In addition to his tenure at Penta, Matter worked for Northwood Local Schools serving as superintendent for seven years, principal of the high school for two years and principal of Lark Elementary School for five years. He also worked in the Pandora-Gilboa Local School District as a middle school principal, business teacher and coach and worked in the Forest Hills Local School District in Cincinnati as business teacher and coach.

Matter earned a bachelor's degree in education from Bowling Green State University in 1980. He has a master's degree in education and administration certification from the University of Dayton. Matter resides in Maumee with his wife, Laurie, and has two adult children.
