Conferences upcoming at SMS

Swanton Middle School has numerous activities and programs coming up over the next few weeks. Here are a just a few of them:

October 15 was the end of the first quarter. Grade cards will be mailed home this week.

Red Ribbon Week is Monday, Oct. 26-30. This year's theme is "Paws-itively Drug Free". The week will be filled with activities for our SMS students promoting the "Be Drug Free" concept.

Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, Nov. 5 (arena-style) and Thursday, Nov. 12 (classroom) from 4-8 p.m. School is still in session on these days.

It is not necessary for parents to attend both the Nov. 5 and the Nov. 12 conferences. They are being held a week apart to accommodate our parents so they will be able to attend either one or the other of the conference days.

For our parents that are new to the arena-style conference, conferences are held in the middle school gym. Teachers will be at tables spread throughout the gym. You locate the teacher that you want to conference with, hold your conference and move on to the next teacher. Seating is available at each teacher's station.

We do request that you try to hold your conference time with each teacher to 5 minutes. If you need additional time, please make arrangements with the teacher to meet for an extended conference. Due to the evening conference schedules on Nov. 5 and 12, there is no school for grades K-12 on Friday, Nov. 13.

There is no school Wednesday, Nov. 25 through Friday, Nov. 27 due to Thanksgiving Break.

Winter is Around the Corner

REMINDER: Students are not permitted in the school building until 7:10 a.m. With that in mind, cold weather is on the way and students waiting to enter the building need to wear warm clothing. Please be sure your young adult is dressed appropriately for the weather. Information regarding student dress is located in the Student Handbook. If you have questions relating to student issues, please be sure to check the handbook.

OSU/Michigan dinner

It's that time! Swanton Middle School is hosting an OSU/MICHIGAN evening on Thursday, Nov. 19 as a prelude to the OSU/MICHIGAN game to be held on Saturday, Nov. 21.

Some of the activities for the evening include; a delicious dinner, OSU/MICHIGAN games and raffles and an opportunity to root for your favorite team by wearing the team colors. Considerations are still being determined for the evening's profits. More information will be provided at a later date.
