ARCHBOLD - A good team in any sport likes to lean to its seniors to carry the team once the postseason starts. In the case of Archbold, it's a case of pick your poison with nine seniors on the team. Four in particular; Stacy Wyse, Emily Snyder, Devin Newman and Hailey Galvan all participated in a 25-15, 25-11, 25-17 win over Swanton in a Division III sectional semifinal match-up at Archbold.
The Bulldogs did battle in each game, but the power of the Streaks came through and rallied them to a victory in each game. Andrea Perrin picked a point to make the score 17-14 in the first game, but they picked up just one more as Archbold won, thanks to an 8-1 run.
Galvan started the rally with a kill, and Wyse chipped in with a pair of aces. Snyder also worked in a pair of kills as the Streaks went on to win 25-15.
It was a longer run in the second game. Swanton hung around in the early moments and after an ace by Miranda Taylor, they led 8-7. Swanton managed just four points the rest of the way as again the Streaks put a run together. Nicole Hurst and Newman each picked up points in one stretch where Archbold ran off seven points in a row.
Stacy and Sarah Wyse got involved at the end of that run, and Newman finished off the Bulldogs with an ace to pull out the 25-11 second game.
A kill by Galvan in the final game gave the Streaks the lead for good. Sarah Wyse followed with an ace and it looked as if another long run was in the cards for Archbold. Newman added a couple of kills and Sarah Wyse did have one in an 11-2 run that put Archbold ahead 20-11.
Swanton got no closer than five the rest of the way as the Streaks pulled the sweep with the 25-17 win.
Archbold advances to the sectional final where they will meet Liberty Center on Saturday at 6:15 p.m.
