The Swanton boy's soccer team split this past week as they opened the season with a 3-1 victory over Cardinal Stritch on Tuesday and fell to Bryan 9-0 on Thursday.
The Dogs took a quick 1-0 lead against the Cardinals Tuesday as sophomore Jerrod Peabody connected with the net off a Tyler Estes cross. Six minutes later Curt Lust blasted the ball past the Cardinal Stritch goalie to boost Swanton to a two goal lead.
No more than one minutes later, a collision down in the Swanton box had goalie Brandon Haley on the ground for well over two minutes. Haley would remain in the game however, and the Bulldogs would continue to dominate the ball.
With 20:02 remaining Estes would head the ball just off to the side of the post, coming up short of a goal. Peabody would then have a chance to increase the score, but his shot would be tipped just wide of the net, leaving the score at 2-0.
With 10:07 left in the opening half, senior Eric Weiderman would find the net on a deflected shot to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 advantage.
Swanton would keep the Cardinals off the board well into the final minutes of the game. With 6:43 to play, Stritch would get on the board as Jonahthaon Kelly took advantage of a two on one to score.
Senior captain Lust would leave the game with about 20 minutes left in the final half with a shoulder injury.
Swanton will play again when they host Clay today. The Dogs travel to Springfield on Thursday.
