Bulldogs sink Lakers 60-0

By DREW STAMBAUGH

Enterprise Sports Editor

Swanton scored early and often as they ended their season with a 60-0 victory over Danbury in a warm and breezy regular season finale on Friday night.

The Bulldogs wasted little time getting on the board, scoring just over three minutes into the contest. Mimmo Lytle ran it in from seven yards out and Nick Yunker added the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

The Swanton defense got the ball back for the offense on the ensuing Laker possession. Sam Knepley intercepted the ball and returned it to the Danbury 27.

Swanton took advantage. Travis Hilton punched it in from one-yard out for a 13-0 advantage with 6:03 to play in the opening quarter.

The Bulldogs (2-8) would force a punt on the next Danbury (1-9) possession and take over at the Laker 42 yard line.

Tom Leahey and James Nagan ran the ball down inside the 10 before Hilton rushed to the one yard line. From there, Lytle pounded it in for a 19-0 advantage with 54 seconds left in the first period.

A diving interception by Louis Miller on the next drive set the Bulldogs up near midfield.

They would again take advantage of the turnover. Hilton hit a wide open Miller for a 40-yard scoring strike. The Yunker extra point made it 26-0 Swanton.

After a three and out, the Bulldogs took over at the Laker 30 yard line. They used the short field to their advantage.

It looked like the drive would stall, but Hilton hit Miller for a 26-yard touchdown on a fourth and 13. The extra point made it 33-0 and that is how it stayed heading into the locker room at halftime.

The scoring continued in the second half. Leahey got the first points on a 58-yard punt return.

Hilton then hit pay dirt from two yards out. A nine-yard touchdown run by Alec Meier made it 53-0 after three quarters of play.

In the fourth quarter, Jacob Reisinger found the end zone from three yards away to finish the scoring.

Nine Bulldogs ran the ball on the night. Nagan had 11 carries for 83 yards to pace Swanton, while Leahey ran for 55 and Maier 33.

Hilton completed three of six passes for 78 yards and two touchdowns.
