Dogs eliminated in OT

TOLEDO - Swanton's postseason lasted more than 80 minutes, but the Bulldogs fell in overtime on Monday in Division II sectional play at Ottawa Hills High School.
Sage Smith scored with 2:25 left in the first overtime to lift Eastwood over Swanton 2-1. She got behind the defense and found the net to end the contest and the Bulldogs' season.
Swanton started the game getting more offensive pressure than the Eagles, but could not convert. The momentum shifted a bit near the midway point of the first half.
Eastwood got a good look at the net and took advantage. Ricky Rossman fired a high shot that deflected off Bulldog keeper Madison Simon's hands and into the net with 19:07 remaining.
Swanton got a golden opportunity to tie the score with 7:20 to play in the half. Leslie Gergich was taken out in the goal box, giving the Bulldogs a penalty kick. Gergich was hurt on the play and left the game.
Kendra Eitniear stepped up to take the shot. But, she sent the ball over the goal and the lead remained at one.
The Bulldogs got another shot two minutes later. The ball bounced around in the goal box after Shylie Houston sent it in, but Eastwood kept Swanton from finding the net.
Eitniear then fired a shot off the post, as the Bullodgs kept getting close.
They finally cashed in with 3:36 to play in the opening half. Brittany VanDeilen had her shot saved, but Jackie Wiederman was their to put in the rebound and knot the game at 1-1.
There were fewer quality scoring chances in the second. Swanton did have one early on, however. Eitniear passed to an open Chelsie Lucio in the box, but her shot sailed wide of the net.
After that, there was back and forth action, but neither team could find the net, sending the game into overtime.
Quality chances were limited in the overtime as well. Wiederman to come close to her second goal, but the Eastwood defense was there to keep it out of the net.
Swanton played without senior starters Shawna Millenbaugh and Ashley Foore.
Eastwood's first good scoring chance of the overtime was all they needed, as Smith won the game.
In the second game, Archbold defeated Otsego 4-0 to advance.
Alicia Drewes had two games and two assists to lead the Blue Streaks. Jessica Ramirez added two goals.
