Tea party

White satin gowns ... white lace gowns ...ivory silk gowns ...many beautiful wedding gowns. It was a fashion show of "Wedding Gowns of the Past & Present" that participants viewed recently at the second annual VolunTeen Scholarship Tea held earlier this month at the Fulton County Health Center in Wauseon. The event was sponsored by the FCHC Auxiliary to raise funds for VolunTeen scholarships.

There were over 140 guests in attendance at the tea, with the host at each table personally decorating her table with the place settings and centerpieces for her table guests. This provided for a wide variety of décor throughout the room, including vintage china, harvest settings, many hues of linens, and even a jungle-themed table. The VolunTeens associated with the hospital served the tea, scones, sandwiches and desserts to the participants.

Keeping with the wedding theme, tea goers listened to speaker, Jackie Sautter, relay her experiences of attending an Amish wedding. She spoke of the many things unique about an Amish wedding, including the proper customs, setting, music, and lengthiness of the ceremony. Things that were similar to a modern wedding, she stated, included large quantities of food and guests.

At the conclusion of the tea, the recipient of this year's VolunTeen Scholarship, Jordan Fruchey, spoke about his volunteer experiences, how it has prepared him, and how he feels it has given him an advantage as he plans to pursue a degree in the medical field.

The VolunTeen program allows area high school students the opportunity to interact with professionals in their communities and to explore a variety of health care professions. These mentoring experiences equip students who wish to pursue degrees in the health care field with invaluable experiences.
