Senior citizens can get absentee ballots now

by MARLA LENT

Office on Aging

The office has received numerous calls from seniors about absentee ballots for the upcoming Nov. 3 general election. It is important for seniors to call as soon as possible to request an absentee ballot at (440) 326-5900. Ballots will not be mailed out after Oct. 31, but time must be allowed for the ballots to get mailed back to the Board of Elections.

The senior luncheon will be held at the MetroParks Wellington Reservation on Jones Road on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at noon. Reservations must be in by Saturday, Oct. 10.

The menu will include fried chicken, spudsters, green beans, rolls, beverage and assorted cookies. Our friends at the Elms will be hosting the luncheon. The guest entertainer for the afternoon will be Lori Long. What a great way to spend an afternoon in a beautiful setting with the sweet sound of gospel music.

It is time once again for us to elect officers for the Golden Ages. If you would like to run for a specific position, let me know. If you would like to nominate someone, we will be taking nominations at the senior luncheon.

If you could use help to put more food on your table call Marcia Kubach at 326-4825. Don't hesitate to call her, she is very willing to help.

For those who have been asking, the HEAP forms are finally here. The new income guidelines allow one person to have a gross annual income of $18,952.50 and a two-person household to have an income of $25,497.50. Remember you will need to provide copies of your electric, gas and income to send along with your application.

The Oberlin Community Services located at 285 S. Professor St. in Oberlin is collecting new and gently used winter coats and sweaters of all sizes to distribute. Share something you no longer want with someone less fortunate.
