Wellington Star talent show is Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

The Wellington Star talent competition kicks off its sixth season this Saturday, Oct. 31, at 1:30 p.m. Auditions were held last week on Wednesday and Thursday, and 18 participants were chosen from a pool of 20 hopeful contenders.

Coordinator Dave Conklin said a wide variety of talent will be featured in the year's Wellington Star, including dance, vocal, bands, and instrumental. He described a "quirky semi-Goth jazz brass ensemble," and said, "They are going to add a lot of entertainment. They put on a great show." Another notable Star act will be an instrumental duo comprised of a current Wellington school teacher and a former student.

Conklin also is excited about an individual who writes his own songs, has his own studio, and will be singing to his own recorded accompaniment. This person is a former Wellington resident who now lives in Cleveland.

Auditions were also held for an emcee to replace Shannon Regal who graduated last year. Four people auditioned, and the honor went to Jacob "Ducky" Drennan, a junior at Wellington High School.

Because the first elimination of Wellington Star takes places on Halloween, audience members are encouraged to wear a costume. The person wearing the best costume will be awarded a prize.
