Seniors must support schools
To the editor:
Today's senior citizens are to be commended for making America the greatest country in history, even through several wars and a Great Depression. Also, by their hand work they have helped to make Wellington a wonderful place to live.
When voting on the school bond issue, senior citizens need to keep in mind that every generation must pay for the education of the generations which follow. Just as someone paid for our education, we must contribute to the education of today and tomorrow's kids. Whatever we put off today will be even more expensive tomorrow. Supporting our schools now at this critical time will be a great gift to our grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Some people say that it is not the building which makes a school good but having good teachers. But how do you attract and keep the good teachers? The best teacher will go to communities which support the schools and give them the tools they need to do their job. We need to provide our teachers and our kids every opportunity to succeed. They need to do the work, but we need to do our part, too. We can do our part as we have in years past by voting yes on Issue 36 for Wellington schools.
