Jane Irene Greene

Jane Irene Greene, 88, of Brighton Township, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009 at her home.

Born in Elyria on June 16, 1921, she was a graduate of Elyria High School and Miami University, where she received a bachelor's degree in education. After receiving her degree, she taught for the Brighton and Wellington schools.

She was an active member of the Brighton Congregational Church and served as the advisor for the Brighton Silver Thimbles 4-H Club. Mrs. Greene loved her grandchildren dearly and enjoyed the time she spent with them. She was an avid reader, gardener, a huge fan of the Cleveland Indians, and she liked watching birds, especially cardinals and hummingbirds. She loved to work in her kitchen; her specialty was her cookies.

Survivors include her loving husband of 64 years, Roy Greene, Jr.; son, Thomas E. Greene of Brighton; daughter, Linda (Bernard) Greene Tobin of Nova; three grandchildren, Michele (Doug) Twining, Chris (Erin) Greene and Emily Tobin; and six great-grandchildren, Tyler, Ryan, Samantha, Matt, Amy and Chris, Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Gertrude (Owen) Gleason, and brothers, Owen, Russell and Wilford Gleason.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 27 at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington. Funeral services will be held at the Brighton Congregational Church, 22086 State Route 511, on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with Rev. John Burgess officiating. Burial will follow at Brighton Cemetery. Donations in memory of Mrs. Greene can be sent to the Brighton Congregational Church Building Fund and condolences may be expressed at www.norton-eastmanfuneralhome.com.
