Bertha Catherine

Komives

Bertha Catherine Komives (nee Puk), 89, died Monday, Sept. 14, 2009 at Welcome Nursing Home in Oberlin.

Born on Nov. 21, 1919 in Blythedale, Pa., she grew up in Wyano, Pa. and later moved to Cleveland where she worked as a waitress.

In 1946, she married Steve Komives of Wellington and remained a Wellington resident until her death. She was a homemaker and a fruit/vegetable farmer. She loved cooking, baking and canning her fruits and vegetables; she made the best chicken paprikas and stuffed cabbage. Mrs. Komives enjoyed reading and caring for others. An active member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, she donated her time in many ways. She also donated the land for Wellington's St. Patrick's Manor.

She leaves behind her son, Steve Komives of Wellington; sisters-in-law Jane Puk, Sue Komives and Mary Alice Komives and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Komives was preceded in death by her father, Andy Puk in 1945; her mother, Nellie Puk in 1966; husband, Steve in 1988; sisters, Rose Manak in 1984 and Antonetta Mary Puk in 2004; brothers, John Puk in 1999 and Anthony Puk in 2004.

In accordance with Mrs. Komives wishes, she will be cremated. Friends and family were received on Sept. 21 until the time of Memorial Mass at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Wellington with Rev. James Reymann officiating. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Opal Gordanier

Gammalo

Opal Gordanier Gammalo, 94, of Wellington, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009.

Born in Iola, Kansas, on Sept. 29, 1915, she moved to Ohio in 1935 where she met and married her devoted husband of 51 years, James Gammalo, Sr. She lived most of her married years in Olmsted Falls. She was a homemaker and hobbyist who loved to sew, quilt, knit, crochet and paint. She and her husband were avid square dancers for many years.

Mrs. Gammalo was the cherished mother and mother-in-law to Charleen (Tim) Wilks, James (Beverly) Gammalo, Jr., Manley Gammalo, Ivahlee (Bruce) Squires; loving grandmother to Scott (Shelly) Cull, Kelly Cull, Cary (Lisa) Gammalo, Laura Bagley, Amy (Andy) Plantaz, Daniel Gammalo, Ian Gammalo, Shanti Gammalo, Brian Gammalo, Shawn (Kelly) Cheshier, Melanie (T.J. May) Cheshier, and Olivia Opal Cheshier; and the sweetest great-grandma of 16.

Mrs. Gammalo was preceded in death by her husband, James Gammalo, Sr.; son, Manley Gammalo; siblings, Joe Gordanier, Archie Gordanier, Ivahlee Zimmerman and other beloved family members, Shanti Gammalo, Tim Wilks and Brad Squires, USMC.

A private graveside service will be held at Grove Street Cemetery, New London. Contributions can be made in Mrs. Gammalo's name to Hospice of the Western Reserve, Memorial Gifts, 300 E. 185th St., Cleveland, Ohio 44119. Arrangements were by Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S.
