Meko
Robert J. Meko, 83, of Wellington and formerly of LaGrange where he was raised by his foster parents William and Ella Younglas, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009 after a long illness.
He was cared for by the Elms Nursing Home in Wellington for two months prior to his death.
Mr. Meko graduated from LaGrange High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and received a Bronze Star for Valor. He was employed at EL-A-CO Electronics in Elyria for 30 years. He was a "Gone With The Wind" movie enthusiast and a member of the LaGrange Steam Engine Club.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Florence C. (Kistner); son, Dennis R. Meko (Myra) of Paden City, W.V.; daughter, Marcia Rose Friend (Richard) of Wellington; grandchildren, Jeremiah, Hannah, Ryan, Amy, Kevin, Benjamin and Nicholas; and great-grandchildren, Curtis, Shay and Rachelle.
Funeral services were held at the Blackburn-Duke Funeral Home on Oct. 6., followed by a Mass at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Grafton. Burial took place at St. Mary's Cemetery in Elyria. Memorial contributions can be made to Our Lady Queen of Peace Building Fund, 1033 Elm St., Grafton, Ohio.
