Police Blotters for Aug. 18
* July 18, 12:23 a.m.: Robert Tegtmeyer of Wellington was placed under arrest for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He was transported to the WPD for processing and was shown and read his Miranda Rights. Tegtmeyer was provided with an opportunity to provide a breath sample of which he did with the results showing a .201 BAC. He was charged with OVI and speed and released on a $1,140 personal recognizance with a pending court date.
* July 18, 12:41 a.m.: Officer Provoznik reported to West Herrick Avenue in reference to a report of an assault. The officer met with a woman who said a white male had grabbed her backside while she was on the dance floor at The Red Iron and wished to pursue charges. The officer informed the woman that she could only pursue charges after she had sobered up the following day. Upon pointing out the male she wanted to file charges against, the suspect was found to have two active warrants for his arrest. Donny G. Hamilton of Wellington was placed under arrest and transported to the Huron County line where a Norwalk patrolman took him into custody.
* July 18, 1:31 a.m.: Police responded to Cleveland City Forge in reference to checking the facility due to an alarm sounding. Officers found no visible signs of a break nor any vehicles in the parking lot. They went to the west side of the facility and located a door ajar but locked. Once inside the officers found a kicked-in door and a fire extinguisher next to it. An inner office door had also been pried open. A search of the building provided no suspects. The Wellington units cleared the scene and turned it over to the county units.
* July 18, 11:31 a.m.: Officer Kobasher was dispatched to a Grand Avenue residence in reference to a theft. Upon arrival a woman advised that her tire cover on her vehicle was stolen. Value of the tire cover is about $80. There are no suspects at this time.
* July 18, 8:06 p.m.: Police learned of a Burger King employee to be driving under suspension and had been talking about how she almost hit someone on her way to work. After the employee finished work the officers observed her leaving the parking lot. Cassandra Pfahl of LaGrange was charged for driving with no operator's license. She was transported to the WPD while her vehicle was secured with a family member. It was noted that Pfahl repeated several times that she did not do anything wrong by driving without a license. Also noted was Pfahl only had a temporary driving permit.
* July 19, 1:38 a.m.: Police were dispatched to East Hamilton Street in reference to a telephone harassment complaint. Upon further investigation the officers learned that a juvenile was making prank calls while using a voice from an Internet website. The juvenile attempted to contact a woman by phone to apologize but was unsuccessful. No charges will be filed at this time.
* July 19, 7:19 p.m.: Officer Smosny was dispatched to Barker Street in reference to a juvenile complaint. Upon arrival a mother advised she was having trouble with her son and that he threw a metal peg just missing his younger brother's head. The officer spoke with the juvenile who said he didn't mean to hurt his brother, he was just upset and wanted to throw something. The boy apologized to his mom and brother prior to being confined to his room for the evening.
* July 21, 10:59 p.m.: Chad Myers of Norwalk was picked up on an active warrant from the Norwalk Police Department. He was transported to Gore Orphanage Road where he was turned over to an officer from the Norwalk Police Department.
* July 22, 5:13 p.m.: Officer Aviles observed a vehicle being operated while in violation of the maximum bumper height law. Upon stopping the owner, the driver was asked to show his driver's license, registration and proof of insurance. The officer advised him of why he was stopped and also checked his bumper height which was 34 inches from the vertical distance between the ground and the bottom bumper. Maximum bumper height for passenger vehicles is 22 inches. It was noted the vehicle fuel tank was exposed and the tires were so big they protruded beyond the wheel wells with no mud guards. Brandon J. Welch of Litchfield was charged with maximum bumper height and was given a court date.
* July 23, 2:40 p.m.: Officer Smosny was dispatched to Forest Street in reference to a possible violation of a temporary protection order (TPO). Contact was made with a woman who said she and her husband were going through a divorce and she has a no-contact TPO. She said she believed her husband sent her a DVD "Fireproof" and a book by mail. Upon investigating the matter, the officer learned the items were not mailed by the husband but by the husband's co-worker. Therefore the husband was not in violation of the TPO.
* July 24, 12:24 p.m.: Officer Aviles observed a driver make an illegal left turn on North Main Street. A traffic stop was conducted and Cyrus M. Offenberg of Wellington was found to be driving while under suspension and in violation of his driving privileges. Offenberg was transported to the WPD where he was charged with failure to obey traffic control devices and driving under suspension. He was released after signing a personal recognizance in the sum of $1,180.
* July 25, 3:18 a.m.: Officer Smosny observed a vehicle being operated without any lights on. A traffic stop was conducted and found the driver to have glossy, bloodshot eyes as well as having the smell of alcohol on or about his person. When asked if he consumed any alcohol he advised he had a couple earlier in the evening. A series of field sobriety tests were administered after which Jeremy R. Hartman of Wellington was placed under arrest for OVI. He was transported to the WPD for processing. He declined to answer questions and opted to contact his attorney. Hartman also declined to provide a breath sample. He was charged with OVI, OVI refusal, headlight required and safety belt required. Hartman was released on a personal recognizance in the amount of $1,300.
* July 25, 10:01 a.m.: A man came to the station to report his wallet was missing. The man retraced his steps but could not locate it. Officer Varner went to Mickey Mart to inquire about the missing wallet but could not locate it either. It was noted two days later the wallet was located in a village trash can, however the $500 in cash was missing.
* July 26, (incident time not reported): Officer Shelton spoke with a woman at the WPD in reference to being harassed by her ex-husband. She said her divorce was final in June and her ex would not leave her alone. She said he calls her 20-30 times a night and if there is no answer he will come to her residence. He also calls her at work and contacts her family members and tries to get them to convince her to take him back. A report will be forwarded to the prosecutor for possible charges.
* July 26, 5:24 p.m.: Officer Rosecrans was dispatched to Baker Street to investigate a complaint of a dog bite. The officer met with a mother who said her son was bitten by a German Shepherd while picking up a loaned movie at a friend's house. The dog was able to push open a screen door and bit the bog in the back and buttock. An ambulance was dispatched and the boy was evaluated by the EMS staff, but the mother declined transportation by ambulance and said she would take her son to the hospital instead. Officer Rosecrans made contact with the dog owner who stated the dog was now locked inside the home. She was unsure of the dog's vaccines due to the dog being passed around by relatives but thought it had been vaccinated. Due to the dog being seen last by a local veterinary clinic an attempt was made to contact to check on the dog's medical record with little help due to it being closed. At 8:45 p.m. the mother contacted the officer and advised she had returned from Allen Medical Center with her son who had the wounds cleaned and was prescribed medicine. The following day a follow-up check with the vet clinic revealed the dog was very sick, has bad fleas, a bad inner ear infection and not healthy enough for any type of vaccinations. Records of rabies or distemper shots could not be found.
* July 27, 8:25 p.m.: A woman contacted Officer Aviles and said her ex-husband has violated their shared parenting plan that was amended in October 2006. The woman requested a report be on file with the WPD.
* July 28, 9:35 a.m.: A man came to the station to report he found a knife at work which was made at work by an employee on company time. The man was advised that a crime had not been committed and this was between the company and the employee.
* July 28, 7:59 p.m.: Officer Aviles met with a woman at the WPD in reference to her bulldog. She said her dog was taken to a local veterinary clinic on July 19 because he became ill and collapsed, and died the following day. The cause of death was poison. The woman said her dog was confined to the backyard and inside the house and kept on a leash when being walked. Upon further investigation, it appears that someone would have had to plant the poison in the backyard. At this time there are no suspects.
* July 29, 6:44 p.m.: Police were advised of a breaking and entering in the Courtland Street area. Upon arrival the officers met with a woman who advised she had $1,600 taken from her safe over the weekend and thought her stepson had taken it. A search of the residence showed nothing to be out of place. The woman further said her husband's welder and a helmet were also missing. At 9:28 p.m. contact was made with the stepson who said he took $900 from the kitchen counter and placed it in the safe which already contained $700. During questioning the stepson changed his story several times. After further questioning he admitted to taking the money. He said he took $495 which was in an envelope on the kitchen counter, but didn't take any money from the safe nor did he take the welder or helmet. When questioning the woman further about the incident she changed her statement several times before admitting there was no money missing from the safe; the only money missing was $500 left on the counter; the welder she sold in a garage sale. It was determined there was no breaking and entering as alleged. After obtaining statements both subjects were released.
* July 30, 3:04 a.m.: A man came to the station to report his bike stolen. He said while at a house on Barker Street someone took off with his bike. He further advised the bike belonged to a friend but had permission to ride it. A check through LEADS showed the bike rider to have two outstanding warrants; one through the Huron Police Department, the other through the Amherst Police Department. Adrian D. Collins of Wellington was given a complimentary ride, not by bike, but in a police cruiser to the Oberlin Drug Mart where he was taken into custody by the Amherst Police Department.
* July 30, 6:24 a.m.: Officer Davidson was advised of a male loading items into a truck at the railroad tracks on Barker Street. The officer observed the male's truck loaded with a large amount of railroad plate ties. When asked what he was doing the man said he thought they were scrap and was going to take them to a scrap yard. The officer informed him they were not scrap and appeared to be new. Contact was made with the CSX Railroad police and maintainer who both advised the plates are the property of CSX and no one has permission to take them. It was noted that each plate weighs about 20 pounds and costs $20 each; the truck was loaded with 62 plates which was a total of $1,240. Ryan K. Harris of Wellington was charged with theft. He was given a personal recognizance of $2,500 and was given a court date.
* July 30, 5:54 p.m.: Andrew E. Columbus of New London was charged with OVI and transported to the WPD. Columbus administered a sample of breath to the BAC Datamaster which showed a .170 percent BAC. He was released after signing a personal recognizance for the sum of $1,000.
* Aug. 1, 1:49 a.m.: Randy K. Pierpoint, Jr. of Spencer was charged with open container and disorderly conduct intoxication and persisting. A court date was provided and he was released into the custody of a friend on a personal bond in the amount of $370.
* Aug. 1, 4:14 p.m.: Officer Aviles met with a man who had been picked up by a passing motorist who was traveling near Sullivan. It was learned the man had been walking from Ashland where he had been staying with his son. It was also learned the man is suffering from Alzheimer's and gets combative if he does not get his way. Contact was made with the man's family who requested the officer transport him to the Elyria Memorial Hospital for observation.
* Aug. 2, 2:55 a.m.: James D. Spangenberg of Wellington was placed under arrest for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. While at the station Spangenberg refused to provide a breath sample. He was assigned a court date and released to a family member on a $1,000 personal bond.
* Aug. 3, 3:30 p.m.: A man came to the station to report someone entered his closed garage on Forest Street and had taken his grandson's bike.
* Aug. 5, 10:59 p.m.: Police were dispatched to North Walden Lane on the report of a disturbance. Upon arrival Officer Davidson spoke with a man who said his girlfriend flipped out, slapped him in the face and then ran out of the apartment hiding her clothes in the woods. The man did not want to pursue charges; he just wanted her to leave the apartment. The woman was located behind the building. Due to having an active warrant through the North Olmsted Police Department Tyson S. Everett of Wellington was taken into custody. Once at the station NOPD advised that because of manpower issues and Everett's level of intoxication they would not be picking her up and to advise her of the warrant and release her. Everett was allowed to stay at the station until she was sober enough to be released on her own or a responsible party would take custody of her.
* Aug. 5, 7:51 p.m.: James S. Moran of Ashland was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated first offense and driving a weaving course. He was released on a $1,000 personal bond with a pending court date. It was noted his sample of breath showed a result of .162 percent BAC.
* Aug. 6, 2:48 p.m.: Chief Rollins assisted the Adult Parole Authority with taking Jesse Williams into custody. Williams was transported to the station, and placed in a holding cell to await his pick up by the Lorain County Sheriff's Office.
* Aug. 7, 1:12 p.m.: Office Shelton was dispatched to Shiloh in reference to a broken window. The outer window was shattered, possibly struck by a rock from a lawn mower.
* Aug. 9, 1:46 p.m.: Keith A. Hall of Wellington was charged with physical control. He was given the opportunity to provide a sample of breath which showed .219 BAC. He was released to a sober party with a pending court date.
* Aug. 9, 2:49 a.m.: Derek A. Barnhart of Sheffield Lake was charged with possession of marijuana. He was given a copy of his citation with a court date. The marijuana was weighed and found to be .925 oz. It was bagged and logged in as evidence.
