Police Blotters for Aug. 11
* July 8, 8:53 a.m.: Officer Shelton was contacted by a woman who stated her father-in-law paid a landscaper hundreds of dollars to work in his yard and he failed to do any of the work. The officer advised the woman to contact the landscaper and get a time frame when the work was to be done, which she did. The date the work was to be completed by was July 3 and he never showed. Furthermore the checks totaling $689 had been cashed by the landscaper.
On July 19, Paul A. Unik, Jr., of Elyria placed under arrest for an outstanding warrant. Unik said the warrant was a misunderstanding and that he intended on completing the work at the residence. He further advised that he was not licensed to apply fertilizer nor did he have a business license or insurance. It was noted that Unik had an active warrant through Medina County for felony larceny (for taking money for landscaping and not doing the work) and also the Amherst and North Ridgeville Police Departments are looking at Unik for possible charges for the same activity.
* July 9, 3:21 p.m.: Police were dispatched to a South Walden Lane apartment to assist a Nord Center employee who was conducting an evaluation on a 15-year-old male. After the evaluation the juvenile along with his mother were transported to Elyria Memorial Hospital where he will be held for a 72-hour evaluation.
* July 9, 5:01 p.m.: Officer Aviles was dispatched to Union Street in reference to an alleged vandalism of property. The resident said someone damaged the mirror on her father's truck. There are no suspects at this time.
* July 9, 9:47 p.m.: Toni G. Bender of Wellington was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant through the Lorain County Sheriff's Office for contempt of court.
* July 10, 12:08 a.m.: A man brought in a drop gate with a license plate which he located in the roadway. The plate was placed in the lost and found drawer.
* July 10, 12:21 p.m.: Police were advised of a truck which was all over the road and almost hit a motorcycle. The officers located the truck by the old Wellington Lumber Yard and asked who owned it. It was noted that Officer Heathcoat advised Officer Shelton that the plate came back as the owner having a concealed carry permit. The owner of the truck after stepping forward reached into his pocket when asked if he was carrying a gun. Then man was advised to let go of the gun and put his hands up, which he did. A loaded 22 caliber pistol with five rounds in the cylinder was recovered. The man stated he was a diabetic and did not have his medicine. An ambulance was called and the man's blood sugar showed to be normal. Robert M. Tite of Wakeman was transported to the WPD where he was processed prior to being transported to the Lorain County Jail where he will be held until posting the $10,150 bond or until his court date. It was noted that Tite attempted to fight the jail staff at the Lorain County Jail on two occasions and also asked if he could have his gun back after he sobered.
* July 10, 4:59 p.m.: Police were dispatched to Herrick Memorial Library in reference to a male trying to get inside the library after it was closed. Upon arrival police located the man at the top of the steps by the front door of the library. The man advised the library had a book for him and they refused to let him have the book. Police asked several times for the man to come down to the sidewalk to talk. The man told police they would have to come to the top of the stairs to talk.
An officer stated he had listened to his complaint and if he didn't comply with this request to leave the premises he would be charged with disorderly conduct persisting. The man refused to leave without his book and was holding onto the railing refusing to let go. After many failed warnings Officer Carter tasered the man with one five cycle. George M. Bosela III of Wellington was charged with disorderly conduct, persisting. He was given a personal recognizance to sign, which he refused. He was advised that if he refused to sign then he would be going to the Lorain County Jail. Bosela was transported to the county jail.
* July 11, 2:33 a.m.: Carrieann M. Kozak of Wellington was issued a traffic ticket for failure to obey traffic control device.
* July 12, 4:57 a.m.: Shawn Hernandez of Lodi was placed under arrest for a warrant out of Wadsworth. Rachel Ann Hagen of Medina was placed under arrest on an active warrant from Ashland County. Hernandez and Hagen were located while Officer Smosny observed a truck parked at the Wellington Reservoir; they were sleeping in the bed of the truck.
* July 14, 10:24 p.m.: Sgt. Bryant was notified that the New London Police Department had James M. Baker of New London in custody. Baker was transferred into Sgt. Bryant's custody and was transported to the WPD where he was shown and given a copy of a warrant. Baker posted $350 and was assigned a new court date.
* July 15, 8:56 a.m.: Kristi D. Jones of Wellington was taken into custody on a felony warrant. She was transported to the Lorain County JVS where Jones was turned over to a Lorain County Deputy.
* July 15, 3:15 p.m.: A man advised he had a trailer of swap meet parts parked on Clay Street since the village-wide yard sale. When he started to take the trailer home he noticed a set of aluminum rims and tires were missing. The items are valued between $100 and $200.
* July 16, 7:25 a.m.: Officer Shelton was dispatched to the area of Barker Street at the railroad tracks regarding someone walking the tracks. The person was located and the officer could detect a strong odor of alcohol on the man's breath. The man was taken to a friend's home on Barker Street to sober up. A report will be forwarded to the man's probation officer.
* July 16, 6:50 p.m.: Officer Aviles was dispatched to the up-ground reservoir in reference to an alleged vandalism of property. Upon arrival a man advised that someone damaged the door window of his vehicle. It appears the subject was scared off because entry was not made. There are no suspects at this time.
* July 17, 9:10 a.m.: Officer Shelton was dispatched to Whitney's Marathon in reference to a bad check with a value of $25.66. Cory Snyder of Wellington was charged with passing bad checks. He was released after posting a $100 cash bond and signed a personal recognizance for the balance of $900.
It was noted a warrant was entered into LEADS for the arrest of Mary L. Squire of Wellington. Squire wrote a check for $30.39 on a closed account and there was a $25 fee from the bank for a total of $55.39.
* July 17, 11:20 a.m.: Officer Shelton was advised that a Park Street resident had his trash can and light pole damaged by the garbage truck. The man stated the damage was caused by the arm that dumps the trash cans. The officer observed the damage; the cans wheel was off and the fiberglass wrap on the light pole was splintered.
* July 17, 4:52 p.m.: James C. Knott of Litchfield was taken into custody on an active warrant through the Lorain County Sheriff's Office.
