Police Blotter
April 21, 6:18 p.m.: Luke M. Lukasko of Elyria was served a warrant on a failure to appear for operating a vehicle while intoxicated charge. Lukasko was at the Lorain County Jail when he was served.
April 21, 7:12 p.m.: While patrolling in the Wellington Rec Park, a man stopped Officer Melda and said there were several juveniles riding skateboards on the basketball courts. One of them used a knife and cut down the pad around the pole on one of the nets. The man gave a description of a boy around the age of 12. Melda located the boy asked him about the pad which was lying on the ground. The boy stated he cut down the pad with a knife and when asked for the knife the boy pointed to a friend and said it was hers.
The girl handed the officer the knife, was told that her mother could pick the knife up at the station, then was released at the scene. The boy was taken to the station where his mother was called and told to come to the station. The boy was advised of his Miranda rights which he signed and was released into his mother's custody. No charges were assigned at this time.
April 22, 8:50 p.m.: Police were dispatched to the Garden Apartments in reference to a fight. Upon arrival they were met by a man who stated he was assaulted and showed the officers his right upper forearm which showed scrapes and swelling. The man stated he was in his apartment when he received a call from an individual to step outside. When he did, a male began arguing with him over CDs and said "I got something that's going to blow your wig back." The man said he thought the other man was reaching for a gun in back of his pants. The man pulled out a softball size piece of concrete and threw it at the man's head who raised his hands to protect himself. Another man was holding a branch three feet in length and stated he was going to hit him with it.
When the man said he was going to call the cops the two males fled the scene. The man requested an ambulance for his injuries but refused to be transported by the EMS stating that a friend would take him to Allen Medical Center. The concrete and branch were placed into the back of a patrol car for evidence and several witnesses that observed the incident filled out statements. Steven M. Bughman of Wellington, was charged with felonious assault and aggravated menacing. After processing, Bughman was transported to the Lorain County Jail to await his court date.
April 24, 12:10 a.m.: Sgt. Bryant advised Officer Davidson of a harassment call that he had received earlier in his shift involving a man and woman. The man went to the woman's residence and was kicking and banging on the door, disturbing the other tenants of the complex. He further stated the woman did not want him at her residence, nor did she want any further contact with him.
Bryant went to the man's residence and advised him not to have any further contact with the woman. A short time later, the woman contacted the police and advised that the man was calling her phone and leaving messages after she told him not to call her. Police made contact with the man at his residence and advised him of the complaint. The man invited the officers inside his apartment and denied making any calls. It was noted the man was highly intoxicated as he slurred his words, stumbled as he walked, and had a very strong odor of alcohol. The man finally advised that he did call her, but stated that he now understood what would happen if he persisted in harassing her. Police left the residence and went to talk with the woman. While there the phone rang and the caller ID showed it to be coming from the man's phone. Officer Davidson answered the phone and upon hearing the officer's voice the caller hung up. A few minutes later the phone rang again. Officer Davidson answered and the caller stated "Uhh, I guess I'm going to jail." The officer advised the caller that they would be over shortly to speak with him. Randall S. Bollin of Wellington was transported to the WPD where he was charged with telecommunications harassment, ORC. He was fingerprinted, advised of his court date and was given a personal recognizance bond of $1,000 pending his court date.
April 24: 6:51 p.m.: A woman and her 16-year-old son met with Officer Aviles at the WPD in reference to a missing bicycle. The son advised that he was on Jones Street and sometime between 3 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. an unknown person took his bike.
April 24, 9:43 p.m.: Police were advised of an ambulance run to Depot Street for a subject who was ill. At 9:45 p.m. dispatch advised that the subject was bleeding from the chest. Officer Bryant proceeded to the apartment and observed a female sitting in a chair in the living room holding her chest. When asked what had happened, the woman stated "I don't want to talk about it." SLCAD arrived on scene and checked the woman for injuries. It was noted that she had a sharp cut about one inch in length in the middle of her chest. When asked what had happened she again refused to talk.
The woman was transported for medical treatment. It was learned she was talking to her boyfriend earlier and was depressed because they had broken up. At around 9 p.m. the woman went into the bathroom and after about an hour she was found on the floor holding a towel on her chest. The reporting officer advised dispatch that it appeared to be a suicide attempt and to contact the Nord Center and request they proceed to the medical center for evaluation. Police checked the bathroom area and located a leather sheath containing a double edged four-inch knife sitting on a shelf.
April 25, 12:17 a.m.: Officer Varner was advised of a possible stolen bicycle in the roadway on Kent Street. The officer found the bike in the middle of Kent Street. Due to no one being observed in the area the bike was brought to the station.
April 26, 6:37 p.m.: Due to a random registration check on a vehicle it was discovered Tamra S. Tury of Wellington was currently under a license suspension. Due to the violation a traffic stop was conducted. Officer Melda approached the driver and explained the reason for the stop. Tury was charged with license forfeiture driving under suspension. She was given a court date and released on scene. The vehicle was released to a family member.
April 26, 10:53 p.m.: Officer Melda observed the driver of a truck traveling on Depot Street as the officer was approaching. Upon turning the truck was left of center and almost stuck the patrol car. The officer had to maneuver to the right off the roadway to avoid hitting the truck. Due to this violation, a traffic stop was conducted. Upon approaching the truck the officer could detect an odor of an alcoholic beverage present. The driver was slow with his words in answering questions and had glossy eyes. The driver was requested to step out of his truck and perform a series of field sobriety tests. Michael A. Garwood of Norwalk was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, going left of center and underage consumption. He was given a court date, a personal bond in the amount of $1,620 and was released to a family member. It was noted that Garwood's blood alcohol content (BAC) was at .106 percent.
April 27, 8:47 p.m.: Officer Heathcoat was detailed to State Routes 113 and 58, to take into custody Terrance Stephens of Lorain from the Lorain Police Department who had a warrant through the WPD for unauthorized use of a vehicle. Stephens was taken into custody and transported to the WPD where he was fingerprinted and photographed. He was shown and read his Miranda Rights and was then processed. Stephens was transported to the LCSO to await his court date or until he could post a $1,000 bond.
