Police blotter
May 13, 6:39 p.m.: Officer Aviles observed a vehicle being operated with a loud exhaust and a cracked windshield. A check through LEADS revealed the driver's license expired in September, 2007. Christopher J. Lawson, 60, of Wellington was charged with no driver's license. He was transported to the WPD and was released after signing a Personal Recognizance for the sum of $5,000 and assigned a court date. He was given a verbal warning in reference to the loud exhaust and cracked windshield.
May 14, 3:21 p.m.: Officer Shelton met with a mother and daughter at the WPD in reference to her daughter receiving text messages. The officer read the messages and none of them were in a threatening nature, they just kept referring to her as a person who takes prescription drugs. The mother wants to pursue charges for harassment. Officer Shelton contacted the girl who sent the messages along with her mother and had them come to the WPD so that he could get a statement. Upon speaking with the girl, Officer Shelton felt that there were no threats made between the two girls but the mother who first came to the station is insistent on signing charges. A report will be sent to Juvenile Court for a prosecutor's opinion.
May 15, 9:46 a.m.: Officer Shelton was dispatched to St. Patrick Manor to meet with the manager and a resident. The resident stated that last year during the county fair she found the south hall door open; it was being propped opened with a cigarette lighter. She went on to state that she opened the door and took the lighter and threw it into the field. At this time, a male known only as the son of another resident, yelled at her and punched her in the stomach twice and went back inside the manor.
The resident waited a year before telling her family and management about this because she was afraid of retaliation. She gave the officer a statement but refused to sign charges. The resident advised the man is still staying with his mother in her apartment. Officer Shelton and the manager spoke with the man's mother who stated her son stays with her a lot but is driving her crazy. He constantly is begging for her pain pills. She advised that her son is at the Oberlin Court at this time. The manager told the woman that her son cannot come to the manor anymore or he would be arrested and she could lose her apartment.
Officer Shelton went to the Oberlin Court and located the man along with his probation officer and chief probation officer Cwalina who were advised of the situation. Cwalina advised that Thomas Sheldon was to be incarcerated next week but if Officer Shelton could transport him she would do it now. Sheldon was advised by Cwalina that part of his probation now is that he cannot come to Wellington at all. Officer Shelton transported Sheldon to the Lorain County Jail.
May 16, 3:19 p.m.: Officer Heathcoat met with a woman who stated that a Dodge vehicle has a loan in both her and a man's name. The woman could not produce sufficient evidence to prove that the vehicle was paid by her in her name. The man however produced numerous documents of the vehicle that were in his name. The woman was advised to turn the vehicle keys over to the man. No further action was taken.
May 16, 4:16 p.m.: It was reported that a husband and wife attended an auction on Wenner Street. Later the husband could not find his wallet. They are not sure where the wallet may have been lost. On May 17 the wife called the WPD and stated a woman found and returned the wallet.
