Police Blotter

May 17, 1:36 a.m.: Officer Melda observed a truck being operated without a front plate and the driver and his two passengers were not wearing their seatbelts. The driver also failed to use his turn signal while turning onto Union Street. The truck continued on Union Street without headlights on prior to pulling into a driveway. The driver pulled all the way up to the side of the house in front of the garage and shut the engine off.

Officer Melda conducted a traffic stop and upon approaching the odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected. When asked whose house they were at the driver stated his friend's aunt and that he was dropping them off there. The driver was requested to step out of the truck and perform a series of field sobriety tests.

Christopher D. Pickworth of Wellington was placed under arrest for operating a vehicle intoxicated (OVI) and placed in the back of the patrol car. One of the passengers became sick while in the truck due to being intoxicated. He was requested to step out of the truck where he continued to vomit and while doing so became disorderly. At this time the resident came out of the home and advised Officer Smosny that she did not know the individuals and that they did not belong there. The passengers made arrangements for a ride while police conducted an inventory search of the vehicle prior to its towing. At the station Pickworth gave a sample of breath to the BAC Data Master with the results being .110 percent. He was formally charged with OVI, seatbelt, no front plate, turn signal and obstructing official business. Pickworth was given a court date and was released on a personal bond in the amount of $1,450.
