Police Blotter

* June 14, 1:11 a.m.: Police were dispatched to Barker Street for a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival they were met by a man and his ex-wife who still live together. The man claimed his ex-wife smacked him across the face leaving a noticeable red mark and cut on his nose. After speaking to both parties separately police arrested Erica Dudek of Wellington for domestic violence and transported her to the WPD. A temporary protection order was completed and Dudek was advised of it. She was given a court date and then transported to the Lorain County Jail where she was held until her court date or the posting of her $1,000 bond. It was noted that both parties were drinking alcoholic beverages during the evening; and photos were taken of the husband's face and of Dudek's hand.

* June 12, 7:35 p.m.: Officer Smosny observed a driver operating a vehicle while having a suspended driver's license. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was told the reason for the stop. The driver was provided with an opportunity to contact someone to pick up the vehicle. Garrett G. Keathley was cited for operating a motor vehicle while under a non-compliance suspension. He was given a court date and released on scene.

* June 14: 9:20 a.m.: Officer Kobasher was dispatched to the WPD in reference to a possible domestic violence. A woman stated that while she took her daughter to her daughter's father's home he began yelling at her about seeing her at the bar with another male. She further stated he poked her in the chest and grabbed her arm leaving bruises. The woman advised she wished to pursue charges for domestic violence and is also requesting a temporary protection order for her daughter and herself. A warrant was issued for the male and police went to his residence to serve the warrant. After two failed attempts police entered the man's information into LEADS.

* June 15: 12:20 a.m.: Officer Melda was dispatched to a North Main Street apartment for a hit-skip. Upon arrival the officer met with the victim who stated he was on his bicycle by the tree lawn where the parking lot meets North Main. While there he was hit by a vehicle. The vehicle swerved toward his location striking the man's rear tire which bent the rim and ran over the man's shoe. When asked how the man knew who was driving, he stated the dome light was on and he was able to see into the vehicle. It was noted that both men live in the same apartment complex.

The man further stated that after he was hit he, along with a friend, chased the vehicle which was then located at the Mosey Inn. When confronting the driver for hitting him and damaging his bike the driver stated he would pay for half the damages but now needed a beer. Officer Melda proceeded to the Mosey Inn where he located the vehicle. Police went inside and arrested Jonathan Warner of Wellington for two active warrants. He was transported to the WPD where he was placed in a cell. Warner appeared to be intoxicated. He complained of an injury to his leg which he stated he had twisted while in his apartment. An ambulance was requested and he was transported to the hospital. It was noted that Warner also claimed he twisted his ankle while being escorted out of the bar and also while being escorted into the station. After being cleared at the hospital for a sprained ankle Warner was transported to the Lorain County Jail and served with his charges for a bench warrant for failure to appear on a pretrial for a theft charge, failure to appear on a pretrial for criminal trespass charge, FRA DUS and reckless operation. Warner was to be held until his appearance in court or the posting of $13,250.

* June 15, 12:44 a.m.: Officer Smosny was dispatched to a Bennett Street residence in reference to a disturbance. Upon arriving police met with a man who stated he was at the location earlier in reference to an intoxicated male. Officer Carter stated he advised this man to stay inside the house for the remainder of the night due to his state of intoxication. The male was then observed to be urinating on the side of his house which was visible from the street. Police went across the street to speak with a couple sitting on the curb. In doing so the male began yelling "this is my house" and told the officers that the male on the curb struck him and pointed to a small dried spot of blood on his forehead. The male was warned several times to quiet down. Swayne A. Wells of Wellington was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct, intoxication persistence after reasonable warnings to calm his behavior. It was learned the two men were drinking in Sandusky and upon returning went to downtown Wellington for additional drinks. The men had a physical altercation and Wells was struck a couple of times. Upon arriving to the station, Wells's mood shifted between being cooperative and laughing to being abusive. Due to call volume and other circumstances Wells was held for four hours and released to family members prior to being given a court date and signing a $250 personal bond.

* June 16, 12:57 p.m.: Officer Shelton was dispatched to a West Herrick Avenue residence in reference to threats. Upon arrival a woman stated a man drove by her house, turned around, stopped, made a gun with his fingers and pointed it at her, then left. He came back by again and yelled profanity at her. The woman stated the man is upset because she was interviewed when the man was arrested for chasing his family with an ax.

* June 16, 1:04 p.m.: A woman brought a wallet to the station and stated that her son found it in Avon a couple of days ago.

Officer Shelton was dispatched to the recreation park in reference to a trash can fire. A mansaid a trash can under pavilion #2 was set on fire during the night and put itself out. A mason jar with a homemade wick was located on the tennis court along with a large burn mark. The mason jar had a flammable liquid inside and was thrown onto the court where it hit the ground and broke; the wick was made of cloth. It was noted this is the second time this has happened. There are no suspects at this time.

* June 17, 11:15 a.m.: Police were dispatched to PT Services in reference to vandalism. A woman stated that on Monday morning they found a smoke bomb near the rear bathroom that had gone off. The door must have been locked when the cleaning people left but not pulled shut all the way. The smoke bomb did not smoke, it ignited and burned some of the tile on the floor and the bottom of the basement door before going out. There is no other way into the building except through the doors. There are no suspects.

* June 17, 11:10 p.m.: A woman brought a Blue Tooth to the WPD and stated she found it on the driveway of the Congregational Church. The device was tagged and placed into an evidence locker.

* June 20, 11:45 a.m.: Police were dispatched to a Prospect Street residence in reference to the Nord Center needing assistance with a patient. While Officer Shelton was transporting the patient to the Nord Center the patient woke up, started shaking and his eyes rolled back into his head. Officer Shelton had dispatch call the Elyria hospital and advise them they were on their way there. Security removed the patient from the cruiser and took him into the emergency room. It was noted the patient stated he had taken two pills for a toothache and appeared to have smoked crack earlier.

* June 20, 8:30 p.m.: Officer Aviles was dispatched to Vine Street in reference to a bicycle laying in the middle of the street. The bike was transported to the WPD and placed in the basement of the Town Hall.

* June 20, 8:06 p.m.: Officer Aviles was dispatched to the recreation park in reference to a smash and grab. The officer met with a couple who had their vehicle window on the front passenger side broken out. They indicated the only item missing was a purse. Police were able to talk with others in the area but were not able to locate any type of witness.

Police received a second call for another smash and grab at the recreation park. It was noted this vehicle was parked within view of the other vandalized vehicle and also had its passenger side front window broken out. The only item missing was a purse. There were no witnesses to the second vandalism.

* June 23, 1:36 p.m.: Officer Shelton was dispatched to a Barker Street residence in reference to an 11-year-old boy being approached by a white male who wanted him to get into his van. The boy advised that while playing outside, a white van with a roof ladder pulled up and asked him if he lost his dog. The boy stated no and the male said get in and we'll go get it. The boy yelled no and ran inside his home. It was noted the driver of the van was a white male with a bread driving a white van with no markings on it, but having one metal ladder on the roof. The information was entered into LEADS and the Lorain County Sheriff's Office was notified.

* June 24, 12:50 a.m.: Officer Melda observed a vehicle weaving within its lane on South Main Street. The vehicle also had the rear license plate light out and due to these violations a traffic stop was conducted. Upon approaching the vehicle Officer Melda detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage present. After failed attempts at the Field Sobriety Tests Melinda F. Harris of Wellington was arrested for operating a vehicle intoxicated (OVI). Thomas's BAC was at .065 percent. Thomas stated that she takes medications of which she should not be drinking alcoholic beverages with. When asked about the weaving on South Main Street, Thomas stated she was messing around with her boyfriend in the vehicle while driving. She was also cited for the license plate light and given a court date. She was released on a personal bond in the amount of $1,200.

* June 24, 8:07 p.m.: Carroll J. Allison of Collins, Ohio was under three suspensions; failure to file accident report, security suspension/non-compliance, and having no driving privileges. He was picked up while operating a vehicle on East Herrick. While being transported to the WPD Allison complained of shortness of breath and having difficulty breathing and stated it was from the four bypass surgeries he had previously. Allison was checked by SLCAD but refused medical treatment. He was processed for the driving under suspension and given a court date prior to being released on a $1,000 personal bond.

* June 25, 6:32 a.m.: Officer Melda observed a vehicle being operated with no visible registration and the driver was not wearing his seat belt. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was explained the reason for the stop. The driver advised that he did not have a license and the vehicle had an expired temporary tag. Samuel L. Fauver of Wellington was transported to the WPD where he was charged with expired license, seat belt, display of plates and expired plates. He was released on a personal bond in the amount of $1,276 and given a court date. It was noted that the vehicle was searched and towed, and also did not have insurance.

* June 25, 7:54 a.m.: A male brought in a credit card that was found at the upground reservoir. The owner was located and advised the department to destroy the card. The card was destroyed and no further action was taken.

* June 26, 2:42 p.m.: Officer Shelton was dispatched to a Grove Street residence in reference to a theft from a vehicle. Upon arrival the officer met with a male who stated that at 4 a.m. he heard a horn blow. He looked outside but didn't see anything. When leaving for work he realized that someone took his binoculars from the backseat and a few CD's from the front console. The vehicle was left unlocked. There are no suspects.
