Meet the Band

This week we feature senior Sarah Brooks, daughter of Jeff Brooks and Kim Smith Brooks. Sarah is the president of the band this year, a two-year squad leader, and has been active in solo/ensemble contest and afterschool lessons. Sarah is a member of the marching, concert, and pep bands, as well as the percussion ensemble. Sarah plays the snare drum for marching band and the bassoon for concert band.

She is also involved in Drama Club, NHS, and is secretary of the Civil War Club. She attends Lorain County Community College full-time and is a member of the Oberlin College Community Winds and the Cleveland Playhouse Theatre Group.

Sarah's most memorable band experience was receiving best percussion and grand champion at contest two years ago. "It was great to be the little guy and beat out all the bigger bands -- I was on cloud nine for days!"

Sarah plans on getting her degree in music education and continuing with her theatre work as well. She would like to thank her parents for their support and advice, Mrs. Novotny and Mrs. Hughes for their knowledge, and especially Rick Snodgrass for loving music and teaching her to love it, too.

Sarah would recommend the band program to others because music really has so much more power than most people give it credit for. The feeling a person can get from connecting with a song and doing it with other people who are just as much involved is indescribable, she said.
