Get animals tagged Nov. 15
Lorain County youth, 4-H or FFA members interested in exhibiting any finished market beef animal in the 2009 Lorain County Jr. Fair Market Beef Show must register and have their animals weighed and tagged on Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Lorain County Fairgrounds, from 8 a.m. to noon.
This includes all dairy, dairy beef cross, and modern beef calves which the members secure on their own. All lottery steer calves secured through the Lorain County Steer Club will be tagged and weighed on an earlier date when they are distributed. Steer Club lottery calves are not weighed Nov. 15. Finished market beef animals should weigh a minimum of 850 pounds by the 2009 fair.
Any youth desiring to take their beef animal to the State Fair should have their animal nose-printed for further identification. Contact the Extension Office early in 2009 for state fair registration information and deadlines.
On Nov. 15, beef animals will be ear-tagged, tattooed, weighed, and measured for hip-height. The Lorain County Jr. Fair Board will conduct this activity. All youth taking a market livestock project must also participate in a mandatory Quality Assurance class and test.
